ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed Pakistan Telcom Authority (PTA) to discontinue roaming facility for Afghan SIMs being used in Pakistan.

The instructions were issued on the request of Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), in order to block contacts between terrorists.

The PM expressed hope that the termination of roaming facility for Afghan SIMs would be completed at the earliest, and would also help declining crime rate including kidnapping for ransom. - See more at: PM Orders To Terminate Roaming Facility For Afghan SIMs - JAAG TV

Heard that news on television. For now, it is a good step. While operation Zarb-e-Azab, we should not allow them to contact their brothers hiding in Afghanistan for help.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday advised the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to suspend roaming services currently extended to Afghan Subscriber Information Modules (SIMs), Express News reported.

The advice was given to the PTA following a request from law enforcement agencies in order to reduce acts of terrorism.

Afghan SIMs with roaming facility in Pakistan – particularly in the tribal areas – pose a serious threat to security not only to the public, but also their representatives.

These SIMs are being used in terror-related incidents, extortion and other crimes, according to reports.

Right about time.... When we stopped registering sims without nic, there was nothing left for these ttp a holes to fall back on, so they turned to towards Afghanistan....

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block cellular roaming on Afghan mobile phone SIMs in Pakistan within two days, ostensibly to block cross-border communication between terrorists.
The order to disrupt roaming facility on Afghan SIMs has been given to block anti-state and criminal activities of terrorists in Pakistan on the recommendation of the law enforcement agencies because of rising security issues. So far, besides some investigating agencies, the governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh are also reported to have asked the federal government to suspend roaming services on Afghan SIMs in the beginning of the year. “The prime minister has desired that this task may be completed in the next couple of days. This act will be helpful in impeding communications between the terrorists and will also help in reducing crimes related to kidnapping for ransom,” reads press statement issued by PM media office on Saturday.

About time this was done.

But what about satellite phones? Those can not be blocked and most likely many (if not all) senior militants carry those.

Hopefully someone informed the PM that this can be done in 5 minutes in any telco network.

Afghanis entry to Pakistan should be banned completely & Afghanis in Pakistan should be deported ASAP.

Good luck with sending Afghanis back, they have now bought houses and have stable work to have any reason to leave for Afghanistan.

They are part of Pakistan now but we should stop the new ones from entering

Pakistan can contact Thuraya it has offices all over Pakistan to block SAT Link to afghanistan..

I don't think there is any option with thuraya to block signals on one side of boarder. Secondly there is huge spill over signals of Afghan telecom companies inside pakistan, therefore roaming facility really doesn't matter cause they are working on their own networks.

Those who run legitimate business, trade can stay back legally. We don't have a problem with that. What we have a problem is with TTP sympathizers and those who continue to talk shyt about Pakistan while living there. They should be ruthlessly eliminated.

I would like to know why Pakistanis want the Afghan refugees to leaves. The reasons. Is it because now Afghanistan is safe enough for them to go back.
