PM Khan okays 46% rise in gas tariff

Making tall claims and criticizing others is easy but when you sit in Govt you come to senses how it works or show some some to bureaucracy and made good popular decision. Instead of milking poor people increase tax returns and bring back looted money.
Make PIA privatize along with steel mill.

Make major universities privatize and provide bright student scholarships.
We need to privatize hospitals, schools and other Govt own institutes so that along with minimum charges poor people get better education and medical facilities.
those who have invested in making ik p.m like jahngir tareen who bought many mnas and mpas will definitely want return of their 10 yrs investment in pti.ik such haste in imposing taxes creates doubts that this tax money may be corrupted

Well this is going to be unpopular.

Step 1 should be to lift all import tarrifs on solar panels and equipment linked to solar energy. People need some sort of relief from energy prices.

Imran Khan now knows that saying is much more easy than doing...

Your point is valid but the current state of Pakistan does not allow to carry on with POPULIST decisions...

Nobody will put a single penny in PIA until unless there are major policy changes in Pakistan in civil aviation sector... you cannot privatize a organisation just by putting it for sale... investors take a deep look into the current situation and decide accordingly... there is no buyer for Air India which is in far more better shape than PIA...

One more thing, privatization is not a solution for everything...

AT THE END OF THE DAY... PEOPLE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THEIR DUTIES TOWARDS THE NATION...

it's about priorities -- PTi's govt has decided to first burden the already burdened common man.
Its easy way.they cannot get the looted money and cannot tex the rich more so they put burden on poors.why already paying texes more than rich people.
Imran khan should give some relief first.but he did same like previous governments.
Nothing will change in Pakistan.every poor give votes for promise of relief but hese rich politicians always backstab.
I am losing my hopes.nothing will change.poor will become more poor and rich will suck the blood of poor and will become more rish.

How power changes perspectives. In 2014, the very same IK and the PTI protested and forced NS to reduce fuel prices when the international prices crashed suddenly. In India, the prices weren’t reduced as much and added nearly $15-20 billion to the budget every year. Imagine what $ 3-4 billion a year would have done to the Pakistan budget.

With Pakistan’s current account deficit being what it is, that would be asking for trouble. Your reserves simply can’t sustain such a move. The government will be looking at an import contraction, not an expansion.

What you say is BITTER but it is the TRUTH...

At the end of the day, you will find RICH people doing business as usual... it does not matter who is in government... IK, Zardari or MNS... If anyone try to stop them, I don't think that he could survive for long...

Bull's eye... I always laugh at news when people talk about increased diesel and patrol prices... why???

After throwing a lavish birthday party (hall booked for Rs. 25,000) for his son's on 3rd birthday (17th August)... my friend was worried about the increase in his monthly petrol budget... the amount was Rs. 500...

Similarly my uncle was busy in criticizing the government for increasing the prices of diesel... reason, his FORTUNER gives mileage of 6/8 kmpl... MAN, you bought a SUV for Rs.30,00,000 and worried about price of diesel...

With Pakistan’s current account deficit being what it is, that would be asking for trouble. Your reserves simply can’t sustain such a move. The government will be looking at an import contraction, not an expansion.

Nope... they need to move from hydrocarbon to renewable... We Indians should thank Modi G for effective implementation of policies in solar and other renewable energy sectors...

Not as easy, not with these reserves. Modi had $300+billion reserves when he started out and their power departments are stressed to the point of collapse. They simply won’t be able to finance large projects without adding to the debt of which they have enough already. Long term, yes; short term, not likely.

Nothing wrong with this price hike. Look at your Household expenses. You can easily afford 50% increase in Gas bills you pay. Gas is already cheaper then it should be.
My concern is on Electricity Prices. They are way way too much. Thats what hurts common Pakistani the most. Get SNGPL out of Deficit i can gladly pay 900 in place of 600 in summer. and 2700 instead of 1800 in Winters if it can generate profit for a public sector organization.
But killer blow is Electricity and Telecommunications.
In scorching heat of 45-50 Degrees Celsius if i use single Air conditioner for just 6 hours a day, a single refrigerator to preserve food and a single motor to provide water source. I will be charged 10,000 Rs for these basic things.
And Internet/Telecom Facilities are even worse. Get a basic phone line and simple 2 MB Internet connection and bang goes 3000 Rupees / month. This is total crap and people are crying for Gas that is almost cheap as dirt

A good leader is somebody who has the b@lls to take tough decisions which everybody will hate. Some management guru has said if you want to make everybody happy open a ice cream shop, don't be a leader.

We have to be sensible with what is imported. Solar panels in an energy starved country like ours is a key item.

It's look like hell to read 46% but our PM will think good as our thought it will be in future so we can sit and just hope on it how it's going to work.

The price hike is an adjustment to the buy/sell of gas it's either that or more taxes, the people will still have to pay for it......the cost of mix needs to come down. There was much noise during the Qatar LNG deal...I hope there is some re-negotiation. (Maybe we get to nab Shahid Khaqan as well)..also Iran needs to be tapped.

Pay upfront. Don't like to pay your bills? Fvck off to another place and pay your bills there.

Don't pretend you didn't see any of this coming. This is all because of the lion Nawaz Sharif. Also known as the best friend of Modi. We know what he did to Pakistan's economy.

What I will add is that I expect IK to get equally tough on the ultra rich in Pakistan. In fact even more tough.

Let me tell you one thing. It is not only this that will be unpopular. 9 out of 10 decisions will be unpopular. Our people won't like any of it, but the first few years are going to be tough. That is just the reality.

They steal electricity and have been doing so for years. They resort to corruption and don't pay taxes. They receive salaries and do not turn up at work. I could go on and on. We all know what happens in our dear beloved country.

To top it all, they have been electing corrupt leeches for the past few decades which have destroyed and strained the economy. Loans upon mega loans. Debt upon more debt.

I laugh at the people who are now crying about an increase in gas prices.

Get in line and swallow this bitter pill. There is no time for crying and sobbing. We all know how Zardari and Nawaz Sharif were collecting personal tax and overcharging the people of Pakistan. From mobile top ups to extravagant energy prices.

What if these price hikes actually benefitted the economy for once?
