It is not metaphorically---but really---it is an old tradition in sindh. I don't know about Mr Faheem's family, but sindhi's do that quite often.

PPPP forms ‘think tank’ to finalise the PM candidate

ISLAMABAD, Feb 26 (APP): Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians has formed a high level think tank to finalise the nominations for slots of the prime minister and the chief ministers.“The think tank has been assigned task to select the best choice from the available favorite candidates, who have emerged on the screen after a week-long deliberations,” sources said on Tuesday.
The committee would finalize the name for post of the prime minister, leaders of the House in provincial assemblies including chief ministers of Sindh and Balochistan and speakers of the assemblies, sources added.

Sources revealed that the think tank formed by the PPPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari comprises Makhdoom Amin Faheem, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Sayed Yousuf Raza Gillani, Qaim Ali Shah, Niasr Ahmed Khuhro, Manzoor Wasan, Najummuddin Khan, Mir Baz Khetran, Raheem Dad Khan and Lashkari Raisani. Thus, it has representation from all the four federating units.

Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians, though emerged as the leading party in the National Assembly, however, it could not secure the simple majority to form the government independently. Therefore, senior PPPP leadership is engaged in the deliberations for formation of a coalition government as well as for building a consensus within the party ranks.

So-called think tank has not been given deadline for completion of its assignment but the sources expressed hope for the decision within two days.

“The list of favorite candidates have already been prepared, the think tank members has to finalize the names after consensus between them,” sources added.

under the circumstances Amin fahim may not be a bad choice. He is a team player and if he makes the right moves and avoids conflict with MQM in Sindh, they will have a decent run at governance. Lets see what the future brings for pakistan.

‘Name for PM to be finalised by Asif and Fahim’

By Ashraf Mumtaz

LAHORE, March 1: Makhdoom Amin Fahim said on Saturday he had been nominated as party’s candidate for the office of prime minister at a meeting at Naudero after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

Talking to Dawn, he said Mr Asif Ali Zardari had also announced at the meeting that the party’s central executive committee would take a decision.

“No meeting of the CEC has been held so far,” he said, adding: that reports being circulated by the media at present were nothing but mala fide”.

Mr Faheem said it was the PPP-Parliamentarians, of which he was the president, which had won the Feb 18 polls and had the right to form government.

Mr Zardari, he said, was the co-chairman of the PPP led by Ms Bhutto.

He said now a decision on who would be the candidate for the prime minister would be taken through consultations between him and Mr Zardari. Asked if he would accept any decision different from the one announced at Naudero, he said: “It would be too early to make any comment”.

PPP likely to name PM on 6th

* Mukhtar, Qureshi and Gillani in the race
* PPP CEC okays parliamentary leaders in National Assembly, provincial assemblies
* Zardari off to Dubai to see children for a day

By Zulfiqar Ghuman

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is likely to name the country’s next prime minister in its National Assembly parliamentary party meeting on Thursday (March 6).

PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has convened the meeting here at Zardari House to be attended by party MNAs-elect including those elected on seats reserved for women and religious minorities.

A PPP leader told Daily Times that the meeting was likely to endorse the PPP Central Executive Committee’s (CEC) nominee for the PM’s office before its formal declaration.

In race: There are formally four names, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Yousaf Raza Gillani and Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, under the PPP’s consideration for the head of next government. The PPP leader said the meeting was important as the government was expected to announce the date of NA session by March 6, necessitating nomination for the new PM.

He said Amin Fahim was no longer the front-runner among the four prime ministerial hopefuls for various reasons. So he said one of the three Punjabi candidates would likely be nominated. Only Gillani, who is the PPP Vice Chairman, has denied being an aspirant to the PM office. Qureshi and Mukhtar say they’ll accept the party’s decision if they’re named for the slot.

Finalised: Sources said that the PPP CEC had finalised the names of its parliamentary leaders in the National Assembly and provincial assemblies. The names will however be made public at an appropriate time after consultations with allied political parties.

To Dubai: Asif Zardari left Islamabad for Dubai Sunday morning to meet his children. He will return to Islamabad on Monday.

Meanwhile, an independent member of Punjab Assembly Rauf Khalid, who was elected from PP-284, Bhawalnagar, announced to join the PPP during a meeting with Asif Zardari.

No differences in party over candidate for PM: Qaim

HYDERABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Sindh President Syed Qaim Ali Shah said there are no differences in the party over the candidate for premiership. The PPP leadership is making efforts to form government both in at the centre and in provinces with national consensus for larger interests of the country, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, stated this while talking to newsmen after presiding over a meeting of the newly elected Members Sindh Assembly from Hyderabad Division here at the residence of MPA- elect Syed Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi on Sunday afternoon. Responding to a question regarding the results of dialogues with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Syed Qaim Ali Shah said the PPP delegation met with the MQM leadership for the welfare and larger interests of Sindh. "We held negotiation on issues of the province at Nine-Zero (MQM headquarters) and when the MQM delegation will come to Bilawal House, further discussions on these issues will be carried out," he said. Sindh PPP chief said though PPP has reservations and complaints of rigging in some constituencies of Karachi and Hyderabad, however it is a fact that MQM enjoys the support of majority of people of both these cities. The PPP is looking forward to the agenda of prosperous Sindh and working in the same direction, he said. Though some party leaders have complaints of non- acceptance of the mandate of PPP in 2002 General Elections in Sindh, however, the PPP leadership believes in dialogues. About the meeting of newly elected MPAs from Hyderabad Division, Syed Qaim Ali Shah said the purpose of the meeting was to take the newly elected party members into confidence regarding the dialogues with MQM. About the absence of some elected MPAs including Makhdoom Jamil- uz-Zaman, who is President PPP Hyderabad Division and son of PPP Senior Vice Chairman Makhdoom Muhammad Amin Fahim, the Provincial PPP Chief said 13 elected party members of the division attended the meeting while the others could not attend the meeting because of their pre-occupation. Replying to a question about any rift among the party leaders regarding nomination of prime minister and Sindh chief minister, Syed Qaim Ali dispelled such impressions adding that the central party leadership would make all decisions keeping in view the larger interests of the country. There are many candidates for the slot of prime minister and Sindh chief minister, but all party leaders and workers would accept the decision, whatever is taken by the central leadership, he added. Responding to another question, Syed Qaim Ali Shah said after forming the government in Sindh, PPP would conduct detailed investigation into the incidents of May 12 and October 18, 2007 as well as the murder of PPP leaders and workers including Munnawar Suharwardi.
