Hi,

I created this account to reply on your post.

Shortness of breadth and cough is probably because of pulmonary edema if your father have reduced LVEF i.e. left ventricular ejection fraction.

He need to get dehydrated as much as possible by medications and all water from his body need to be removed to reduce the load on heart.

If you can provide me more details, I can probably help you out more.

I wish and pray for health of your father.
Are you a doctor? These symptoms sound like congestive heart failure - stage 3?

@salman77 Will do. All the best.

My father had a triple bypass heart surgery in June of this year (2016). He is not recovering well. He has the following symptoms.

1) Shortness of breath
2) Cough that won't go away
3) Weight loss ( lost 20 pounds since the surgery)
4) Loss of appetite

Please pray for him as doctors have been unsuccessful so far in diagnosing and treating the symptoms.

Hi,

How old is your father?

Be careful of being doctor; many illnesses have similar symptoms.

Leave it to the experts.
True, but equally relevant that sometimes even the experts have a hard time making a proper diagnosis. So it's always better to go for a second opinion if there is no improvement. My mom was admitted to a hospital and not just any ordinary one and she was really sick and doctors couldn't make out what was really wrong, so we took a temporary leave from that hospital and took her to another where the doc had to perform a quick surgery and remove the fragments of her ruptured gall bladder and stones which had also damaged the adjoining intestines.

Praying that your father recovers quickly and that the time isn't too difficult for you and your family. Please take care, too!

Yes, I am. And you are correct, it is probably a case of CHF.

@salman77 low salt intake means less sodium thus low water retention.
Tell me latest lvef for your father and also did your doctor check for any valve malfunction?

@salman77 also if he has his ct scan done for lungs, was there any major calcification seen??

I'll have to check with his doctor regarding valve malfunction.

In regards to a CT scan, his family doctor has sent the request. My dad is now waiting for the hospital to call back in regards to the appointment time and date.
