We are entering a cycle of escalation:

US and Taiwan moves to provoke China

China mobilizes for war

US sees that China is mobilizing for war so it gets ready to deploy to Taiwan

China sees that US is getting ready to deploy to Taiwan so it enters a pre-war stage

US sees that China has entered a pre-war stage so it begins to deploy to Taiwan

China sees that US is beginning to deploy to Taiwan so it launches the attack

Historically, the actual war started after such invasion took place. World War 2 only escalated when Germany successfully took over half of Europe. Falkland War started after Argentina took over Falkland, Gulf war escalated after Iraq successfully took over Kuwait. So I think in this context, the real question is more about how China could hold on to recently conquered Taiwan. The US and West might be distracted when China launched the attack, but as soon as China militarily seized Taiwan, all eyes will surely turn towards China.

Arguably, China is not doing so well in building alliances, especially with its immediate neighboring countries, and China can never sustain the fight alone in an all out war against pretty much the whole world.

Name me one country that is willing to absorb a nuclear strike from China over Taiwan.

The question is, will China risk a nuclear war by threatening to use nukes? I dont think Chinese leaders are that mad. Remember, China sends 150-200 nukes and level each city belonging to allied nations and risks getting retaliation ten times over? Cmon, the math just isnt right.

US has the so called mutually assured destruction in an all out nuclear war and that was prepared against Soviet Union that had more nuke warheads than China today.

I guess both sides will resort to conventional war and China will likely be fighting war in its soil. The question is, if China is fighting alone, how long can it sustain the destruction on its urban centers? Unless China can bring the war to European or US soil, but that is highly unlikely.

Well if we are talking about probability, the chance of US using nukes against China is higher than the other way around. US has a history of nuking its adversary, especially when it holds numerical advantages. China hasnt. So you tell me whether Chinese nuke is for display only.

That is what I am talking about. No countries in their right mind would so easily resort to using nukes, including US and China or Russia for that matter. That is why the most possible scenario is conventional war.
