What's new

PLA Drill's with F-7 jets

The last pic looks pretty sci fi...like out of a Space drama.. where the fighters are hooked upto many umbilical cords that separate when they launch.

1# Because WS-13 and WS-10 is not enough manufacturability, we still need Russian engine.
2# China will not reduce the number of aircraft. China will not manage to replace all J-7 and J-8 with J-10 and J-11, PLAAF does not so much money.
3# Will continue to equip J-8(J-8F), this is the reason why some people do not like SAC.
4# PLAAF should buy FC-1 or J-7MF, be used to replace some old J-7 fighters.

People should not blame SAC for outfitting J-8s. They are doing this for PLAAF because J-10 and J-11 are not equipped fast enough. Why would they still be making J-8s unless PLAAF still accepts them?

Everything in china right now is an interesting mix of old and new.

When you don't really understand your opponent, the opinions becomes polarised. He is either very forefront or very conservative, very modern or very outdated, very feared or looked down upon.

I think the mix is a reflection of China's security needs. I mean you'd hardly need the J-10 for Mongolia or Tajikistan, the fleet of older F-7s are perfectly adequate.

It's also an inevitable result of jumping large gaps, like the contrast between modern chinese cities and rural areas.

Those are very old J-7II's(J-7B?). No double delta wings (J-7E). Well maintained.

However, they are mostly waste of time except to keep the pilots somewhat engaged. It carries too little fuel, even for dog fight training. (And J-7II aren't that good a dog fighter anyway, even by 60's standard)
