If the pirates are moving towards their safe shelters in Somalia, then our and other friendly navy ships with helicopters on board should run faster to intercept the pirates' possible route near Somalia. The hijacked ship cannot stay for a long time in the ocean. Its fuel will be in short supply soon and its food stock will also go down in a matter of days.

Seems, BD navy is not announcing any actions they are going to take. But, in one news, I have read that the navy will be waiting until the pirates reach Somalia, and ask for compensation. I do not just understand what kind of action or inaction is this.

My gut feeling that Pirates already knew that the ship is carrying nickel a precious metal. I never seen somalis ever hijacked a ship with food grain, coal or anything of lesser valuse. A international syndicate is working with them.

Bangladesh has asked India to help rescue a Bangaldeshi merchant ship which was captured by suspected Somali pirates on Sunday off the coast of India's Lakshadweep Islands, sources said Tuesday.

Suspected Somali pirates have taken over the MV Jahan Moni, a Bangladeshi-flagged ship, which was on its way to Europe with 25 crew members and 41,000 tons of nickel ore on board, some 67 nautical miles west of Minicoy Island, according to the sources.

"Indian Navy's assistance is being sought to rescue the ship which the pirates are believed to be steering towards Somalia," the sources said.

Meanwhile, the International Maritime Bureau's piracy center has reported that six armed pirates captured the ship.

"A merchant vessel was reportedly hijacked by six armed pirates and 26 crew members were taken hostage around 67 nautical miles west of Minicoy Island," the report said.

Considering the southern tip of India as a focal point, Lakshadweep is located just at the opposite side of Sri Lanka. It means, it is quite far away from Somalia. It is unbelievable that the Somalian pirates can come this far, take over a ship and then take it to Somalia.

However, Somalia is the only safe haven for pirates. Can it also be some political gangsters from Yemen, as well? Navy ships with reconnaisance helicopters or roving satellites in the high sky may trace the whereabout of this ship.

Once the pirates are on board, you cant do nothing as all the crew members become hostage. Thats why they dared to come 3000 miles away from their home. There is another reason that most of the sea routes near the Gulf of Aden are well monitored and pirates had little choice but the venture long awy from those well guarded seas.
