Pipes won't, as it would have to either transit through Pakistan, China or Iran. Pakistan and China would not be acceptable for india and Iran is already a major gas supplier. Shipping LNG from anywhere on the Russian mainland to india would be cost prohibative nad uneconomical.

Well, it depends of local residents' purchasing power.
Pipelined natural gas in countries that do not produce much natural gas is at least 3-5 times higher than in those countries with resources.

We have both cross-border pipeline systems and LNG depots at the coastline.

Russia and india have both looked into providing natural gas before but abandoned the idea in the early stages because of the logistical and economic factors and that too when the price of gas was at near to its peak. Now that gas has hit such a low it's almost impossible to create a business plan based on Russian gas supplies to india vs gas supplies from the middle east.

You need just look at the map to see why gas from either Qatar, UAE or even Iran make more economic sence then supplies from Russia.

You need just look at the map to see why gas from either Qatar, UAE or even Iran make more economic sence then supplies from Russia.

Importing LNG is the easy part, just buy lNG ships from China or Korea.
But storage and domestic pipeline network are the harder part.
Just like food supply, in many countries, enough agriculture products are produced, but the problem is in lack of infra to transport and store.

Import from Russia, cheap and clean.

Russia is too far away. The pipe has to go though Afganistan. Our best option is Iran. But compared to the indigenous gas prices, cost of imported gas will be much higher.

Cost of local gas is around $ 2.3 per mmbtu compared to imported gas price of around 8 to 12 per mmbtu.
