i dint know where to post it,correct me if i am wrong.................guys i had met an indian army havaldar at our church in vellore(we were at a first communion ceremony),he had some exciting things to say..................first thing he said is that he wud prefer an AK-47 over any rifle any day.............he said that the main disadvantage of the insas is very long to handle in mountains(a place he often works),2nd the soldiers does not like the 3 round burst and says every soldier likes full auto and powerfull amo.................wen i told him the reasons for 3 round burst and 5.56 rounds he said he understood it but he said the insas is suited more for an open battlefield where less maneuvering, but a fighting terrorist even after being hit is the worst situation a soldier can be(and that is possible with the 5.56),he said the ak-47 can be fired thru cracks of rocks in mountains,he also said while moving into a house it dint like the optical sight on the insas as it obstructed the view..........he says an ak with a foldable butt can fit his body easily and he can sit and eat with it,he can even sit in a tiolet with it an even bath with it and the rifle blends with the body but the length of the insas obstructs even while sitting..........he has also operated the tavor, cornershot(which he commented favourably but then agin siad it was not powerfull),the chinese rifle(as he called it)........he said the chinese rifle was very light and accurate but still thay cud handle anything with an AK,the tavor as accurate but had the same prob(5.56) as the insas, therefore preffered ak any day.
coming to the LMG he said the insas LMG was accurate but still lacked the power they needed,he said soldiers liked rifles, lmg with rounds which shatter rocks with their powerfull ammo and it also had a psychological effect on the terrorists...........he had been in 3 encounters so far,he feels very happy the recently inducted anti IED vehicles he says they offer very good protection aginst all weapons used by the terrorists an says it can be parked even in the front of a house with terrorists and used as cover within or from the outside............he said soldiers are impressed with drgunov sniper rifles but he dint even know the name of the galil..........he said one heavy reason that the casualties on their side were mostly minimum was due to the body armour they used now, they were issued with an imported vests for testing,it was very light but failed miserably and the soldiers continue to still use the tried but heavy ones, the old ones worked well but there are fatal casulties only wen they are hit in the head or below the arms on the sides where there is no protection and th bullet goes right thru the ribs.
he said the terrorist always panic on seeing the security forces and fire like mad men(he said the terrorist r often poorly trained)....he said the AK the army uses are more accurate and more reliable than the terrorists and the captured arms r not used by them..he mentioned one disadvantage of the AK,it was difficult to fire while lying on the ground...........the terrorist use an LMG(but was bigger) called "peacock"
(donno wat it is) but they were very powerfull and the soldiers will always stay down wen they here it spray(the only way to defeat them was to bring in heavy firing using carl gustavs or rocket launchers as he called them),the jawans always pick the peacocks after the encounters..........the arl gustavs r a must for every enounters an the jawans enjoyed using them on terrorists an the terrorist had no match for it.....from his words i got got some insights on how the army thinks.
