Great initiative , they do need more planes and less employees in that organization

ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet on Thursday approved acquisition of eight A320S type passenger aircrafts on dry-lease from Qatar to enable the national carrier to improve it’s flight operations.

The company will provide A-320 aircraft from April and the national flag carrier will pay $1.6 million monthly installment to it," PIA spokesman Mashhood Tajwar told Dawn on Tuesday.

The planes are two to three years old and will be operated on domestic and international routes. After their induction, the PIA will be able to restore some of its routes as well," Tajwar said.

PIA intends to lease eight A320S offered by Qatar Aviation Lease Company through international tender. These aircraft will be available from April 2014. The Finance Minister directed the management of PIA that they cannot go outside the tender and ensure that all the requirements are met and relevant rules must be followed.

When GoP going to sell 50% stake of PIA???

Great initiative. But we need a few more long-haul airliners for operating lucrative European and North American routes.

It makes sense to invest in PIA to get more money via its privatization by the year-end.

As the economic growth picks up, we shall see greater demand for foreign travel. Expected growth would likely soak-up the excess and surplus staff. In this scenario PIA can do very well in hands of private management.

PIA needs @ least 50 to 75% privatization the gov't have time out & time again have failed to revive it, time to give it to private investors business men, who knows something about market economy rather then politicians who have been a total disaster in this ragards , I would also suggest expansion for Shaheen air, it has got a lot of potential
