ISLAMABAD: The administration of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is considering to stop its operations of the Premier Service due to financial losses just four months after its launch, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

PIA had launched its Islamabad to London “Premier Service” on 14th August, 2016. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had inaugurated the national airliner’s “Premier Service” himself.

However, the national carrier had reportedly faced a financial loss of Rs. 700 million within four months of its inauguration.

PIA was using expensive Airbus jets for its “Premier Service”. The national airliner had bought new aircraft for the flights. The features of the new service included new livery and elegant business class.

With new aircraft, more professional crew and improved service standards, PIA aimed at providing an altogether different experience to passengers.

Under the new services, the passengers could travel in a limousine car upto 25 kilometres in London.

. . .
It was launched with such fanfare. It was suppose to usher in a new era in PIA's history. Given the stiff competition the Middle East carries are giving to PIA, it's going to be a difficult climb to the top.

pia premier failed because of how shit the website was, the website didn't have an option where you could look for premier service only. in-between the daily flights you had to remember which flight number is premier. and that two the flight was making pit stops in islmabad, lahore and karachi before finally flying to UK. why would anyone want to stop in 3 cities to board passengers before you fly to your final destination.

i tried 15 minutes to buy a ticket, it was so confusing and no clear indication of which flights were premier so i ended up buying my ticket from emirates, even though i was happy to pay more to pia.

the premier service was a terrible idea, you either upgrade all your aircrafts and the service to a particular destination or you try to make the old service better with the older air crafts. having 2 or 3 flights weekly under a premier service just doesn't make sense without a dedicated website, booking offices etc.

Yes, PIA's web site is crap. If they can't do it themselves they should outsource it to someone who can.

As for the Premier Service, you are correct that they should have refurbished existing aircraft with the service rather spend so much money to wet-lease Airbus aircraft. If they have to acquire additional frames for this service, there are plenty of used 777s available on the market. PIA has the infrastructure to support this aircraft, so the costs would be lower.

Why does everyone else make money and pia loses money. Answer is very simple just the management at pia doesn't see it.
I challenge pia to give me a free hand to do what I like. I will bring the airline into profit within 1 year. Pay me if I succeed.

.
Shut down this useless airline and let Ettihad, Emirates and Qataria take over...!
If Pakistan is to have a national airline it must not be named PIA ever!

Or let each province have an airline for stiff competition and PIA becomes a logical entity for flying international...

Because PIA is a political party rather than a business enterprise..which ruling party is in power has direction decision making in PIA!

Shut down the regular airline and shrink operations to premier only with few profitable routes..slim and lean the enterprise and for god sake.ban the labor class! They can all use ettihad, air arabia, shaheen air, bhoja air budget fligts...this way we can have a profitable enterprise, a functional national airline, our head held up high and there would be foreign nationals actually wanting to fly on this airline....

.
The biggest problem with PIA is corruption, it runs very deep in state government owned entities.

.
Unfortunately today Pakistan run exactly opposite to jinnahs first speech.

.
Instead of closing they should reward some passengers with first class as means to thank the customers increase loyalty

Create a loyalty card and during checkin if seats are available allow Airline to upgrade customers to frist class

If plane has 200 Seats , 50 are first class, if there is low booking for First class , upgrade the
Economy to First class and fill economy seats with waiting list

huh ... not making profit my arse

Are you stupid? Do you want to handover the entire international market of Pakistan to foreign companies on a platter?
Granted they are Arab (companies) and that means you value that over practically anything else, but at least try and think about the loss it would cause to your economy.

Oh come on. Labor class? We are all laborers frankly. Problem with PIA is that its a staffing agency like you pointed out. Need an independent board to run it and not janab ka iqbal buland ho type sycophants.

However each province having an airline based their is a good idea but it would be anti national.

.
PIA should be privatized and given off to Chinese - about 70% of it's shares and sell 30% in PSX.
This formula should be implemented to all the Govt. owned Entities.

.
Most Airlines world wide have complimentary service of upgrading a passenger to Frist class if a seat is available.
This gives a Economy passenger a chance to experience the premium service

Positive word to mouth marketing

Flying a plane with empty frist class seat is not ideal and I am sure it is not the case

  • Also with Oil at record low rates for 2 years PIA should be reporting a operational Profit, minus the loss of ATR plane due to crash
