PIA flight PK-368 hit with bird strike in Karachi

A big reason for bird hits is trash and housing near Runways and Airports, Govt needs to clear those houses and give these people some other land to live on, its no joke as people build homes near runways and then throw all sorts of trash over there which attracts birds and they can cause huge disasters.

Look at Karachi airport. Due to corruption and mismanagement, the exclusion area around the airport is completely built up as there are settlements. Also, with PPP and MQM ruling the city for last several decades, Karachi is a garbage dump. So its natural to have birds around scavenging even in exclusion area.

If flights to Karachi increase, there will be more such incidents.

Either that or build a new airport far outside the city as they did in Islamabad. Best to tear down the houses and turn areas around airports into no go zones. Any major human activity other than farming perhaps will attract significant bird populations. I doubt if the area around it were turned into a park for people to visit that it wouldn’t be a week before there was enough trash there to attract birds.

That is ideal for moving the Airports outside the city limits, but as Population of Pakistan increase, many of the people migrate for better financial opportunities such as Karachi, and buying a house way far from downtown can be cheaper, and then there is issue of Land grabbing and China Cutting.

Well we either need to move them or the airport. If it’s too hard to move the people, build a new airport far outside the city and turn the old airport into a park, but with strict enforcement of sanitation.

Moving the people out maybe more of a hassle then their government can handle right now. Perhaps moving the airport to a place on the rail network would be best. If the old airport is handed over to the people of Karachi as a new mega park.

Either way, the overall impact to the image of Karachi of another airplane crashing for a reason such as trash will sink the city more then the cost of a new airport.

p.s. having looked at the map again, there really isn’t any place decently close for the people of Karachi to easily access, where a new airport could be built. Also it sets a bad example for the government to allow encroachment to disrupt the airport. This Is a fight the government will have to take on, and compensate the home owners and move them out of the way.
