With Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) buried in increasing debt, the airline’s management has decided to suspend flights from Beijing to Tokyo from February 15.

Following the closure of the route, PIA flights will be restricted to Beijing.

Mashood Tajwar, the airline’s spokesperson, said the step has been taken in view of incurring an annual loss of Rs300 million from its Tokyo flights.

PIA saves Rs20m a month through austerity steps

Tajwar added that the route has been discontinued to cut down on PIA losses.

Last year, the airline had suspended its operations to Kuwait and Salalah, Oman. The decision followed the suspension of flights to New York, where PIA said ran into heavy losses.

The national flag carrier, however, resumed operations on Muscat and Sharjah routes which it suspended over a year earlier.

one thing I forgot to add, the routes that are closed by PIA are usually picked up by.......kakkai bassi. So I guess this route will be acquired by him.

When a plane files , the cost of fuel is recovered from sale of just 5-10 airplane seats
So every flight makes a Profit which flies from airport

Typical Airplane Pakistan has there are 100-150 seats or more

View attachment 532726

If you have sold out 174 seat plane , and 10 seats recover fuel cost ...that means you made pure profit on 160 seats , plus you made extra money on baggage fees
What pure profit?
How could you miss out maintenance cost operational cost, Salaries and other expenses, profit gets out after deducting all these exp from revenue.

PS: pls stop making guesses and misleasing, n try to find semi annual audit report 2019 that will clear all.

Khakahn abassi is always doing Pakistan favors

Lets calculate salaries

The airline employed nearly 14,000 people in 2015
Imagine they are given 40,000 rupee each

Total Salaries due 2.8 Billion Rupee
  • 22 Million Dollar due

REPORTED REVENUE : 800 Million Dollar
Estimated fuel cost at 80/20 ratio : 160 Million Dollar

All Salary Perks should be curbed down to 40,000 rupee per employee
Salaries : 14,000 x 40,000 x (5 month) , divided by 125 rupee base salary all employees
= 22 million dollars

Still profitable over 618 Million Dollar in Profits in 5 months
Full year figures could be close to 1 Billion Dollar in Profits

Does PIA still owe money on these planes? are the planes being financed? that would sure cut into profits. Recapitalization of the fleet will also have to be done similar to the gulf carriers if PIA wants to stay competitive with more fuel efficient planes and space optimized designs that allow more passengers in the same space, etc.

.
Even with all engineering work and lease payments we should be killing it with profits

PIA should be making 1-3 Billion mark
Steeles Mills should be racking in 5-7 Billion in profits considering how much steel we need
Railways / Metro / Bus systems ~ all can churn billion in returning investment

People outside of Pakistan are salvating over idea of taking over these assets at dirt cheap rates

North America to Pakistan direct flights which PIA runs take you to Pakistan in 14 hours

  • The Foreign Carriers which stop over in Middle east do the same flight in 21-25 hours, for Pakistani passengers it does not makes sense to fly none PIA carriers

A majority of Pakistani Passengers all prefer to fly PIA with just 13-14 hours flight time vs 26 hours in air

Not fully aware of status of flights in USA-Pakistan but ideally Pakistan Embassy should work to ensure PIA is back in Action in USA

Toronto to Karachi flight is only on Sundays and typically costs as much as Middle Eastern flights with several times inferior service. People only take it out of necessity rather than choice, PIA should improve service or reduce price.

.
I doubt prices will go down further similar flights to Japan / Korea / Philippines etc can easy range in 2000 Dollars PIA rates are quite low

PIA takes you 10,000 Miles for 1200-1500 dollars

US airlines can easily charge you 600 Dollars for 2 hour flights and when it is busy season and you are stuck at airpot the chages can go up to 1200 dollar

13 hours from wheels up in New York to wheels down in Lahore; I timed it back in 2014.
Even if PIA resumes today, they don't have my trust yet, and they don't have a connecting flight to Multan ready until 23 hours later. I like Lahore, but I rather get to my final destination first. New York to Dubai in 13 hours, a layover of 2.5 hours in Dubai, and a Fly Dubai flight of 3.5 hours to Multan. If PIA was better and available, I would do a flight to either Islamabad or Lahore and a quick 1 hour flight to Multan. A Layover of less than 5 hours would still get me to my destination faster. PIA needs to up its game. currently there are 600,000 Pakistanis in America, presumably 100,000's more in Canada. In 10 years at current growth rates there could be more than a million Pakistanis in America alone. Does PIA want to give up that lucrative business to other carriers due to miss management.

Also future planes will make it even more economical to fly transatlantic to England drop off and pick up passengers there and fly on wards to any Pakistani city direct due to the demand. While not non-stop, landing in Manchester or London and getting right back onto that plane within a couple hours and landing in Multan directly, would make PIA way more attractive to me and my family.

Stopping over in Istanbul's new airport for a change of some passenger and refueling can also be an option for PIA to allow on wards flights direct to smaller cities like Multan.

The mid sized plane of the future like the Boeing 797 would be a plane PIA should save up to procure as it will make those kinds of flights more economical in the eastern hemisphere, than the 777, except for the USA/Canada Flights. (5000-6000 mile range). With 12 Boeing 777, PIA needs to get back to fly to the USA and Canada; there are a million reasons why.

Problem is you dont have the real numbers
Until you have that you cant really do much or say much

o_O We know seats on plane
We know cost of Ticket
We know Revenue
We can estimate cost of fuel at 20% of Revenue

In Past PIA profits were being channeled out of Pakistan in brief cases held by model girls
or they were simply moved out by network of fake bank accounts in Sindh

All Airlines of world made bumper profit when oil prices crashed

The only difference now is

  • Banks are on high alert to check for large bank account and transactions
  • Fake accounts are being discovered and scrutinized
  • Models , Dancers , Entertainers are being questioned about their funds they are carrying
  • Money exchanges are on high watch list to prevent the hundi business
  • NAB based sting operation are catching corrupt officials

So I heard PPP officials want to start a parcel service soon :omghaha:
