+ hey, I could be wrong but these are just educated guesses and when dealing with Indian armed forces (and shady SOFs at that) you are always going to be in a guessing game.

But my guess is........

There were 3 groups of troops:-

1.Troops with no helmet just wearing a bandana and carrying Tavor...whom i believe are Para guys.
2.Troops with helmet and Tavor whom i believe to be Ghataks.
3.Troops with Insas and wearing helmets which i think are regular soldiers.

No it has been confirmed there were NO SOFs in Indra-2010 (on either side) those guys are defiantly Ghatak of Naga regiment.

Like I said in my post (#98) I believe the guys with Tavors are Ghataks but yes they do look similar to PARA SF ( is this a bad thing) and I have seen proof (pics/vid) of Ghataks with Tavors. But defiantly the guys (with INSAS) with helmets and goggles and elbow/knee protection are regular Mech infantry.




On the contrary PARA (SF and Non-SF) do have elbow and knee protection just they probobly don't use them as much (maybe changing these days).

You know i was among the few who said that these guys were Para at the time these pictures released.

I cant prove anything in an internet forum.All my life i have grown up in Army cantonments and i can even distinguish a soldier from a civilian by looking at the way he dresses.There are some things you cant prove but feel and everyone has a right to have their own opinion.

Now comming to the point..What i have seen is that Tavors are exclusively for Para coz the Army doesnt have enough of Tavors to equip Ghatak as of now so my guess was based on that at the time of INDIRA..some guys said that they were Ghataks and i have many many friends and relatives in the army..some were ex Ghatak too and all i can say is that Ghataks till now dont have Tavors.Maybe if it is there then only a few units would have got it as if the whole Indian army Ghataks would had it..i wont be posing with an INSAS in my avatar.

Regarding the current excercise..the way the bandana guys were moving i am 100% sure that they are Para guys but i have notihing to prove so..and thats the reason i am not stressing on anything.

Ghataks are shock troops and they are not a special force by any means reason being that it is not having fixed members,,infantry guys join it in turns but are specialised..its not an exclusive group.There is a gap between their training and special forces training for obvious reasons but they are very skilled.

I had a chat with an ex RR ex Ghatak guy yesterday where i would have asked him 10 times if he has seen Ghatak guys of any unit with Tavors but his answer was a big no and then i asked about the helmet to which he again said no,,,which makes me believe that these guys are Para.He said as of now we dont have it but in future we are difinitely getting those.

So i am pretty sure of what i am seeing but i dont want to force anyone to believe anything what i say...and i have no links to prove it also.....and i am sharing this for the few guys who belive like me that they are Para guys.

I would be extremely happy if these guys are Ghataks....if so then the Infantry guys have become better than some of the special forces too...coz Ghataks are just regular soldiers in the end.

in the end tavors it self are meant for SF's(for close quarter combat especially).........so no point giving them to ghataks who are meant to remain in the frontline in a war scenario!!

dude naga regiment does not meant that only naga's are recruited in it............but still am not sure whether they are ghataks

in the end tavors it self are meant for SF's(for close quarter combat especially).........so no point giving them to ghataks who are meant to remain in the frontline in a war scenario!!



dude naga regiment does not meant that only naga's are recruited in it............but still am not sure whether they are ghataks

Every regtt of the Indian Army recruits people from a particular region excluding The grenadiers and the Para.So Naga regtt will have Nagas only and not biharis or rajasthanis...but the officers can be from any region.
