Philippines signs pact with India for Brahmos missiles

US pacific fleet is our biggest rival in Asia followed by JSDF.
So all cool then, eh? Russia wont mind India selling this joint tech to countries in Asia, since these are not even the top 2 rivals to China as per you.

BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture by India and Russia, is on a marketing drive for its powerful anti-ship supersonic cruise missiles in south-east Asia and the Middle East, in a total of 14 countries. The missile is considered the world’s deadliest and can hit a target at speed of around Mach 3 (ie, three times the speed of sound).

In a major development that could change the power dynamics in south-east Asia, the Philippines signed an agreement for a potential supply of BrahMos cruise missiles on Tuesday, the country's Department of National Defence revealed.

Present at the signing ceremony, held at Camp Aguinaldo - the headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines - were Raymundo Elefante, Undersecretary at the Department of National Defence, and India’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Shambhu Kumaran.
“We are buying the BrahMos missiles,” Defence Secretary of the Philippines, Delfin Lorenzana, said after the signing ceremony without giving any further details.
The BrahMos is a medium-range supersonic missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, planes or land. The Indian Air Force used air-launched BrahMos missiles in the Ladakh region during the border stand-off with China.

Lorenzana said the agreement served as guide for the Philippines and India on “policies and procedures in defence procurement.” Indian defence ministry sources told Sputnik that although the final deal between the two countries has yet to be signed, the agreement will serve as a “legal framework for the procurement under the government-to-government modality.”

It is expected that talks about the value of the deal will begin in coming months.

The Philippines Army in October 2019 activated its first land-based missile battery and an aviation regiment. The BrahMos missile is expected to enter the service of the Philippines Army by 2024.

MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN): The Philippines and India have signed an agreement for a potential supply of BrahMos cruise missiles, a product of collaboration by India and Russia, which the Philippine government hopes would boost coastal defence.
Philippine Defence Undersecretary Raymund Elefante and Indian Ambassador Shambu Kumaran signed an implementing agreement on Tuesday (March 2) at Camp Aguinaldo, headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, according to the Philippine Department of National Defence on Facebook.

The agreement involved the procurement of defence material and equipment by the Philippines from India, an emerging superpower rival of China in Asia.
"We are buying the BrahMos missiles," said Philippine Defence Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, who witnessed the signing ceremony.

He did not provide details of the procurement plan yet.
BrahMos are medium-range supersonic (faster than the speed of sound) missiles that can be launched from submarines, ships, planes or land. It is considered to be the fastest supersonic missile in the world.
Lorenzana said the agreement served as guide for the Philippines and India on "policies and procedures in the defence procurement".
It also served as a "legal framework for the procurement under the government-to-government modality", Lorenzana added.
The missile system, which can be used for coastal defence and ground attack, would boost Philippine military firepower in the face of threats to its maritime territory, coming mainly from Chinese aggression in the South China Sea.
Plans to procure the system stalled last year due to budgetary constraints caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Hindustan Times reported last year that India has offered a US$100 million line of credit to the Philippines for the weapons system purchase, but a government source privy to the deal said it could be more.
In separate occasions in January this year, Ambassador Kumaran and BrahMos Aerospace chief executive and managing director Sudhir Mishra visited the Philippine Army and Philippine Marines, the potential users of the BrahMos missiles. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network

When is the Supa Powa delivering the Brahmos to Vietnam?

Do the daft Indians really think Russia will allow sale of Brahmos to countries that threaten it's strategic ally China?
Meanwhile Chinese in Pak

Zhang Heqing, China's Cultural Counsellor at the Chinese embassy in Pakistan, courted controversy after tweeting a video of a girl dancing with the caption: "Off your hijab, let me see your eyes".

hina's Cultural Counsellor at the Chinese embassy in Pakistan, Zhang Heqing, faced a backlash from people in Pakistan for tweeting a video of a dancing Chinese girl, with the caption: "Off your hijab, let me see your eyes.#Xinjiang dance."

It didn't take long for Twitter users in Pakistan to ask Heqing to take down the tweet immediately.

The Chinese embassy realised the tweet had not gone down well with the people of the country and deleted it.

Scores of Twitter users in Pakistan slammed Heqing for "insulting" Islam. One even said that the tweet might strain China-Pakistan relations.

"This is an awful statement. But If Chinese goes on like these Islamophobic statements than Pak-China relation will not end on good terms...But we must realise that stupid people like him are there who want to create misunderstandings. Better to reports him to Chinese government[sic]," the Twitter user said.

Another Twitter user reminded Heqing that Hijab is very much part of "our Islamic values" and that ridiculing the same while holding a key position in Pakistan is shocking.

One user told Heqing that he had "crossed the red line" with his "derogatory" tweet towards Muslim women, hoping that the Pakistan foreign ministry takes up the issue.

"@zhang_heqin sir know your place. We respect China as a country .But you crossed the Red line with your derogatory tweet towards Muslim women. You should be ashamed of your self & issue an apology for your shameful tweet . I hope @ForeignOfficePk take up this issue [sic]," the tweet read.

Hijab is a traditional headscarf worn by some Muslim women.

BrahMos is superior to Kh-35U carried on Chinese Su-35S. Better range 290 km compared to 260 km and supersonic compared to subsonic.

If Brahmos is being purchased for China then they have many Supersonic missiles to counter this tiny purchase which Sino flankers can carry so no need to send Su-35s as those can be used against IAF with J-16s

welcome move, all these countries need quality weapon systems. With Tejas coming along with locally made weapons suit it will be an excellent choice too.
Vietnam next for Brahmos, Aakash NG, Tejas and many more....

so many missiles fast tracked and tested during the china border standoff ... each one has true potential to go export....

If they need quality weapon systems, they will go to Americans, Russians, or Europeans. The only reason they accept India weapons is the price.

India has been talking about the possible sales of Brahmos to Vietnam from 2010.

Yes, potential. That is the word I often see in India's statement.

Philippines will surely ask for a "no questions asked return policy" with this piece of equipment. Indian defense products carry a negative reputation.

I can't imagine anyone from your MOD guys keeping a straight face while trying to sell Tejas to other airforces.

All defense exports of such value are subjected to rigorous testing by the buyers before placing a 'buy' order.

Yes I agree but its just a suggestion. Better safe than sorry type of thing.
