Philippines is Ripe with Investment Potential

^ Revolution. :)

If there is going to be a next revolution, it is just going to be large groups people converging into some highway and protests unless we have the balls to do a Libya-style uprising, both of which would result to something like shooting our own feet.

Well sir good opnion but sir china is only one of our investors if America and Japan and Korea pulls out of the country thats a problem but if you look at it we have more investment in terms of 1 billion in china than china meer 500 million invest here and due to the arrogance of chinese imperialism and the chinese government and its nazi party maoist party of china it will be bad for the Philippines to have any economic connections with china they still hurt our economy and giving them any power over our economy will just be bad in the long run heck china has been doing it ever since formal diplomatic relations open they have benefit from us more than we benefit from them in fact our whole manufacturing sector was crippled and thats legal dont get me started on the illegal things china has been doing here and around the world.

And beside i would rader have the Japanese and Koreans here their energy technology is one of the best and also more trade with the west more the Europeans than America to be blunt America is a bit unfair to us since so we better off with Korea, Japan, And the European Union than china.

Sir Indonesian too have a concern about Chinese move in South China Sea and we are actively watching their move and made a strategies based on the threat they suppose to do to us. But that thing cannot hinder Indonesian-China business relationship, we are living in global and information ages, moreover in Asian ages. China is a big factor in this regard, their capital is second only after US and has surpassed Japan several years ago. They are actively promoting overseas investment for their company and businessman to expand their economics growth by market fields and secure raw material needed to feed their industry. Philippine in this regard should actively trying to take this chance, and not to avoid that.

So What i am trying to talking about is, there is no need to shoot your own leg by trying to alienating China and their money over the empty words called pride in which has been spouted by your so called politicians (especially since most of them is corrupt too). Japan and Korean is a good investor too, but it will be a very reasonable for people to have more than three or four basket money called investor, after all of people is must be greedy at heart. And mirroring the Indonesian own experience, we had been embargoed military by US, but that thing can't make us sever our business ties with them, after all money is money and pride is just an empty words in which can't be used to buy a bread or sugar. Your conflict with China, is not that worse as our situation back with US or Australia in 2000's, but we can overcame them and their investment keep flooding Indonesia after that debacles.

While I don't like Chinese policies in that sea, we can't mix up economic policies with politics. This is how the real world works.

Look what happened when EU and USA sanctioned Russia even further after the MH17 fiasco.

But then again sir stituations differs our case its more harm than good so i stand with my statement but thanks for contributing in the discussion its very insightful but Indonesia stituation is different from the Philippines.

Its good but please invest in the power sector first

In fact, that is one area of interests for JICA [JAPAN INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AGENCY], which had met with Filipino delegates regarding energy investment initiatives and opportunities just this past October.

That is the issue we have and the government has no plans to change it due to the oligarch grip on national interests; to summarize it: too much bureaucracy, corruption and economic restrictions hinder the development.

Thank you for your very honest and transparent introspection of the limitations in Government. Japan has, through our long years of cooperation with Filipinos, an understanding of some areas in the Philippine Government that need improvement. One thing that has improved dramatically is the infrastructure , which is a key concern for shipping. There are three regions that are of great interests for Japanese Businesses : 1) Central Visayas (Cebu), 2) Northern Mindanao (Cagayan De Oro) and 3) Southern Mindanao (Davao). These three areas are largely developed, a large enducated work force, a large deep water port. These three areas will be perfect for Japanese businesses looking to relocate from China to ASEAN.

The more Philippines takes care of security concerns, the perception of the country will greatly improve, and with that -- brings FDI. :)

One recent addition to the problems of the economy here are the ports and transportation; for the port issue, the Manila ports (both North and South Harbors) are getting congested that thousands of intermodal containers are stacked up there. One solution is to divert the cargo the Subic port and Batangas port and improve the roadways that connects that port to Metro Manila though I am not sure if the government will plan something like this.

As for the transportation, well there are too much private vehicles and little public transports (this doesn't include Jeepneys, buses and public-utility SUVs) here that almost all roafs are congested with vehicles. Seeing that Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore have better rail transport system, I used to wonder why our own rail transport system, which was the first to be made and operate in South-east Asia is now lagging behind, sadly, the answers are simple: corruption and bidding process. For the road, one solution to connect the North and South is by extending the elevated tollway here in Manila which is called "Skyway", connecting the North expressway that connects Manila to the northern provinces and the South expressway which then connects Manila to the southern Luzon provinces and eventually the cities and provinces south of Luzon. I am not sure if this will be finished in time, which I think is 2016-2017 but if this system was turned into a freeway, it could help decongest the roads in Manila, sadly the said Skyway will remain a tollway.

The solutions could have been implemented if there were little bureaucracy and little politics though the status of Metro Manila itself should be rehabilitated.
