From China's point of view the philippines seems to be the weakest link of the ASEAN countries. Also US interest will increase in south china sea as it seems PLAN is focusing on building a ocean going south sea fleet. They pretty much transferred most of their newest toys to the south sea while the other two fleets (east and north) remains largely unchanged.

PLAN does not believe it's fewer new ships will make a difference in possible conflict with US backed SK, Japan. It wants to build and test a model blue sea fleet first in the south. US will be watching and the ASEAN partners will be watching.

Yeah, these few toys are just the testing models, since we don't want to go through mass production when it is not the most sophisticated toys yet.

Yeah, these few toys are just testing models, since we don't want to go through mass production when it is not the sophisticated toys yet.

Type 054A has started serial production, and it seems that they may be a few in each fleet.

The two type 052C are all in south fleet. No. 3 is launched and no. 4 is almost ready to be launched. number 5 (and a rumoured 6) are seen in modules.
Will be interesting to see if they all go to south fleet.

I have discussed the Phillippines issue already in another thread. PLAAF don't even operate MIG-29s. I found the speech made by the AFP chief quite laughable to be honest.

Philippine incursions into Chinese sovereign territory are not appreciated (see map below). Thousands of years ago, seafaring Chinese (not landlocked Filipinos, Vietnamese, or others) claimed the South China Sea islands for China. We got there first; too bad and so sad for you.

China is one of the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council with a veto. Complaining to the U.N. is futile. China will veto the pitiful Filipino whining. If you don't like China's thousand-year-old claims to the South China Sea islands and territory, feel free to take up the issue with the PLA Navy. Good luck, you'll need it.
