This is my first post here and I am appalled at the level of knowledge of this man here especially when he claims to speak for me (Tamizh)..
Most of the conquests are lost in antiquity and, as victors write history, have been eradicated. However, even in myth, we find kernels of truth. One story is that of Agastya killing the Rakshasa. Agastya came from the North and killed the wicked, nonbelieving Rakshasa and brought enlightenment to the land.
The Tamils have a somewhat different view of things.
I am a Tamizh. So stop talking for me as if you know everything and let me give you the true picture as there are a variety of interpretations of what you say.
Sage Agathiyar (not Agastya as you called ) was originally from the South who had gone to Kailash (Himalayas) to meditate to Lord Shiva and get his blessings. Noe the Vindhya mountains which traditionally separate North from South were growing too fast and as result the Sun was not able to move without circumambulating the mountain. The Sun god only circumambulates the Meru mountain and so to prevent Sun from circumambulating Vindhyas too Agathiyar was asked to move to south.
He asked the Vindhyas to stop growing till he returns back to the Himalayas to meditate and the Vindhyas agreed to it. But he permanently settled in south then as a trick to prevent the Vindhyas from growing ever again.
Again, no spoon-feeding. Tamils literature claims to span 10,000 years, long before the Vedas. They had a culture before the Vedas.
So ? Hinduism is not alone Vedas.
It's the problem with the Semitics who imagine every religion must have a finality, absolute quality like their religion. NO it is not. Vedas are
just one part of Hinduism..Hinduism is an eclectic mix of various sub-cultures,practises but which all borrow from a common civilization.
Yes we had a culture before the Vedas. so what ? Still our works were replete with references to Shiva, Ganapathi, Parvati, Murugan (Skanda) who are widely followed Hindu gods of today.
Perhaps one could argue that Mahavishnu as a God might have some North Indian connotations. But that is the beauty of our religion. We worship both Shiva and Vishnu, though I would classify us as more of Shaivites.
Your basic assumption of Hinduism as one homogenous entity that had its Mecca somewhere is laughable and not even worth responding to. Learn something about what you talk.
