It won’t. Even if crude goes down, IMF is demanding tax and levy on petroleum. There is still a lot to reach the requirement.

Such massive hikes in so quick succession may lead to civil unrest. People will get desperate and we already have an example in Srilanka of what desperate people do in such circumstances. I would also keep an eye on gas prices. Although nothing is being reported on that front, but I suspect.

I have watched Miftah’s press conference. He was quiet with a smile, when he skipped the question about implementing petrol levy and GST tax from July.

There will be more pain. No relief from IMF. They want their targets achieved at any cost. According to some report, IMF also want the recovery of fuel subsidy given by government from March to May through increased taxes
