Petition filed to elevate Gen Raheel to field marshal’s rank

ISLAMABAD:

A proposal to elevate the present Army Chief General Raheel Sharif to the rank of field marshal reached Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday.


A lawyer has sought the high court’s help to elevate Gen Raheel to the rank of field marshal in the greater national interest by taking into consideration his “exemplary services and sacrifices rendered for the nation.”

In the appeal, Sardar Adnan Saleem, through his counsel Raja Saimul Haq Satti, said that such an elevation is an emergent need in the present circumstances.

He has made the federation through the cabinet division secretary, the prime minister through the secretary of the PM Secretariat and defence ministry secretary respondents in the petition.

The counsel said that the army chief should be promoted to the rank of field marshal for rendering services to protect national security and safeguarding the frontiers of Pakistan in accordance with the National Action Plan (NAP) and for successful completion of Zarb-e-Azab in an effective and efficient manner.

While calling him a ‘trailblazer’, Satti said that Gen Raheel provided visionary leadership to the people as well as the security forces.

“The exemplary, outstanding and professional performance during peace and war time with total dedication and devotion by attaining the highest standards and mastery in battlefield,” he said adding that the COAS needs national appreciation, award and recognition.

In the petition, Satti said that the COAS should be elevated to the highest level of military hierarchy for rendering his services for the nation and humanity at a larger scale in an extraordinary, exemplary and selfless manner.

He has urged the court to direct the respondents to elevate Gen Raheel to the rank of field marshal for leading from the front on different fronts.

Haen???? As for as I know to be a Field Marshall a general must have led the army of another country.. I heard Ayub led Burma's and gave some lectures to Iran thus awarded himself with it..but I'm not sure of it.

And moreover Raheel Sharif doesn't need any rank to stay in the show.. he has done enough which would keep him enlightened whenever the history of Pakisatn will be told.

His name has been written in gold not in history only but engraved in the hearts of people.

Ayub Khan awarded the field Marshall rank him self , he wasn't awarded by any one

as much i respect Gen Raheel but i think Field Marshall rank should only be given to some one who has lead victory in a war , Zarb E Azab hasn't finished yet and we haven't won yet so it is not necessary to award a Gen Raheel that rank , even if they do i believe Gen Raheel will decline the rank him self

Usually the rank of field marshal awarded during the war to a GOC Gen who is fighting in hostile territory and it is / was just a honorary rank which never retires but the person who carrying it and I don't think Gen Raheel have done something extra ordinary to get this honorary rank few examples operation Zarb e Azb still underway, militancy in Baluchistan still continues, CPEC is still not completed and above all Karachi situation is also not much improved.

Who told you that judiciary is weakest in Pakistan WTF you are talking and spreading lies and Yes in the whole world court can't rule about army promotions and ranks but if a serving person wants to file a review petition against the institution he can like Gen Malik did in India about age review.

U are confusing between the authorities of institution of India and pakistan.
Your example tells a lot about the Strength of judisary in India....
Give example of cases where judisary have superseeded army in pakistan. Aan I m sure u don't need references where your army have crushed your judisary..

The Great man will retire...he is too honourable and has deep self respect... He will bow out. By doing so he will serve his great nation once again.


However, one can not understand this stupid limited duration of for the PA Chief..


It should be five years as is the duration of the Pak parliment..

This needs to change immediately...because it is counter productive in the current geo-strategic envirnoment.


If any petition needs to be filed then this one must have highest priority.

Also the merit must be the only selection criteria not some political loyality... PA is only loyal to Pak State and People... by expecting political loyality the Pak political class is insulting the Pak People and PA as instituition...

The Giant has done his duty for his beloved homeland and the next one will follow in his footsteps... PA as an instuition is behind the State and People. Does not depend on one man, no matter how brilliant he may be.
