First and foremost, we send our condolences to the victims’ families. We also wish a speedy recovery to those who got injured in this attack. The terrorists have no shame in targeting a religious center. It is safe to say that they will target anyone who opposes their ideology. At the same time, conspiracy theories only let these terrorists off the hook and help further their evil agenda. We wish to see a peaceful Pakistan for the sake of achieving our peace objectives in the region. Our common vision in regards to stabilizing the region has helped us remain united against our common enemies. We must continue to work together to negate the threat of terrorism. We share a common stance against terrorism, and hope to continue our partnership for the betterment of the region.

Rest in Peace.

Pakistanis were making fun of Indians for a couple of rape incidents in India and now see what happens. There are bad people everywhere. Stop laughing at other's misfortunes.

RIP tragic , sad loss of life ... some people are really gagging to start sectarian war in Pakistan , AQ in action my guess

PESHAWAR: At least eight worshipers, including two children, were killed and 55 others injured in a powerful bomb blast at a Tableeghi Markaz (Islamic preaching centre/seminary/mosque) --not far from the military cantonment-- here on Thursday.

"The explosion ripped through the Tableeghi Markaz located on Charsaddah Road when at least 800 worshipers were offering prayer," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Najib-ur-Rehman said.

Rehman also confirmed the deaths and feared a rise in the toll.

"The terrorists targeted the centre run by the Tablighi Jamaat (society for spreading faith) just metres from the military quarter of Peshawar", another officials said.

Initially it was suspected to be a cylinder blast, but a foot deep crater between two pillars of the prayer hall dismissed that theory.

Furthermore, the distinctive smell of explosives and the crater strongly pointed to a planted device, which was later confirmed by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).

Concluding that it was not a suicide bombing, Additional Inspector General of Bomb Disposal Squad, Shafqat Malik, said a timer device with at least 5 kilograms of explosive was used in the bombing.

"The timed improvised explosive device (IED) was hidden inside an empty canister of ghee,", Malik said.

The casualties were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital not only by the emergency responders but also volunteers.

According to hospital sources at least 55 injured have so far been brought to the emergency room -- many of them critical. The head of the hospital confirmed the number of the casualties.

A wounded worshiper told Geo News that they had just started offering Namaz-e Maghrib (prayer offered just after sunset) when the explosion struck.

"The bomb went off while we were in the middle of first Rakat (a unit of Muslim prayer)", said he. He added that faithfuls were still pouring in as it was a special worship night, which attracted a lot many preachers and Muslims at large from and out of the city.

"This special 3-day preaching session starts on Thursday night and the terrorists struck when the attendance was at its peak", an official said.

Tableeghi Jamaat adherents generally gather at the sprawling seminary and mosque located on the outskirts of Peshawar on Thursday nights, as well as Fridays.

A search and clearance operation is underway at the moment.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but militants at war with the Pakistani state often have targeted houses of worship with bombs timed to kill the highest number of people.

President Mamnoon Hussain has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in Peshawar blast. The President also called upon the authorities concerned to ensure that best medical assistance is provided to the injured.

Condemning the attack, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families. He also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and courage to the bereaved families to bear the loss with fortitude.

Decrying the bomb blast, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, vowed to eradicate terrorism at all costs. He has sought an immediate report from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).

Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan, reprobated this inhuman attack in the strongest of words. He said the perpetrators were hell-bent on destabilizing the country by such cowardly acts of terrorism.

Patron-in-Chief of Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the culprits involved in the attack were not only enemies of the country but also enemies of Islam, a religion of peace and well-being. "We are invaded in every inch of our land, in our holy places, in our lives and honor," he added.

The chief of Minhaj-ul-Quran International Allama Dr.Tahir-ul-Qadri urged the entire nation to unite against the terrorists. He said that terrorism and target killing is organized conspiracy against national solidarity. He prayed for martyrs and early recovery of all injured persons in the incident.

In a rare statement, the outlawed militant outfit, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has condemned the attack on the Tableeghi Markaz.

TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid denied having any role in the blast.

"We don´t kill innocent civilians and we have nothing to do with the blast," Shahid told a foreign news-wire by telephone from an undisclosed location.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Al-Qaeda-linked militants have led a bloody campaign against the Pakistani state in recent years.

Now these mofos will condemn attacks and innocent civilians.

It doesn’t matter who caused this blast. May be the perpetrators were Afghan agents; fact of the matter is that innocent people have been killed without any rhyme or reason!

I am also deeply disturbed at the statement by TTP. Do they mean to say that the people they kill, such as ANP leader earlier this week, deserved killing?

I have no word to describe TTP and all those who bomb mosques, imambargahs, khanqahs of the Sufi saints and schools except that may they rot in hell for ever.

An insight into this incident?

Tableeghi Markaz bombing
FROM THE NEWSPAPER

Published 2014-01-18 08:01:48

THURSDAY’S blast at Peshawar’s Tableeghi Markaz throws up a number of questions. The atrocity is particularly puzzling not because of what happened, but because of where it happened. There is nothing new about terrorist bombings targeting mosques, imambargahs, other houses of worship or public places as Pakistan has been witnessing such events for over a decade. Instead, it is surprising that the militants would choose to strike a target that represents conservative religious thought. Perhaps this, yet again, shows that in the militants’ holy war, nothing is sacred. Tableeghi centres have been bombed in the past, most notably in Swat last January. While the TTP has been quick to distance itself from the Peshawar blast, we should remember that the Pakistani Taliban are not a homogenous group, as numerous outfits are functioning under the militants’ umbrella. So while the ‘official’ TTP spokesman may have denied responsibility, there is a distinct possibility that hardliners within the militants’ ranks carried out the bombing.

But why target the Tableeghi Jamaat, an apolitical, largely peaceful group that concentrates on preaching? After all, the group and many in the militant movement are ideologically linked, pledging allegiance to the Deobandi school of thought, even though the Tableeghis stress peaceful preaching, while the militants wish to spread faith by fire and the sword. There are a number of possibilities; some observers feel the militants are not happy with the movement, criticising the Tableeghis for emphasising preaching over jihad. Some Al Qaeda-linked Takfiri groups have actually issued fatwas against the Tableeghi Jamaat. So the bombing possibly was carried out to ‘teach’ the Tableeghis a ‘lesson’. Sectarian militants may also be responsible, while the role of foreign elements cannot be ruled out.

Of course, only a scientific investigation can help identify the perpetrators. But conducting such a probe will be difficult as, according to reports, volunteers washed the crime scene soon after the attack, while police and the media were initially barred from accessing the site. If such tragedies are to be prevented in future, organisers of religious events and administrators of mosques and other places of worship where large numbers of people gather need to cooperate with the authorities. Hundreds of people were in the mosque and fatalities could have been much higher had bomb disposal unit officials not defused a number of similar devices in the building after the bombing. When such large gatherings are taking place, it is essential that the participants are thoroughly checked, especially in cities like Peshawar which have seen a high level of terrorist violence. Meanwhile, elements within the state and political parties who are eager to talk to the militants must consider that if the Taliban are not willing to spare those who are ideologically close to them, what they can be expected to do to ideological ‘opponents’

Rest in peace dear innocent brothers and sisters.

A few comments need to be stated here.

This is NOT a TTP bombing. The TTP , lashkar e jhangvi, Sipah-e-Sahabah all follow the Deoband school of thought. These movements will not attack their own religious schools. These movements have brutally attacked mosques, religious schools of the majority sufi Brelvi school of thought and of course our Shia brothers and sisters and their institutions.

Now why as to the question why so many brutal terrorist outfits come from the Deoband school is a cold hard question the scholars have to ask themselves and deeply reflect upon.

As for the attack I find it highly suspicious that the area has been washed and the media and especially the police were barred from entering. Could it be a terrorist was sheltering there, hopefully without the knowledge of the people in charge and this now an attempt to brush things under the carpet?

Anyway may Allah rest the innocent souls in peace. Sad and very tragic.

Those were my initial suspicions, perhaps the accidental detonation of a package meant for a more conventional destination. Personally, I have found TJ members to be generally well meaning and polite but all schools are changing and the hate propaganda of ttp etc is seeping in to all of them slowly.
