The four US citizens refused to get out of the vehicle or talk to the police or the media.
Four US citizens riding in a suspicious car with a fake registration number were released after being briefly detained. Armed security personnel stopped the Land Cruiser at an army check post in the Gora Qabristan area.
The security forces had been pursuing the vehicle from the Karkhano Market till the Sitara Market in Hayatabad after the foreigners failed to follow protocol.
The number plate on the vehicle, IDF 7582 was found to be fake but there was another number plate, CD-64-164, present in the car. According to the other number plate, the vehicle was registered with the American Consulate.
The four United States citizens refused to get out of the vehicle. Two of them identified themselves as Kevin and Richard Scott. The foreigners handed over their passports to the police and after investigations, they were released.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik contacted the Capital City Police Officer and inquired about the situation. Talking to the media, Superintendent Police Cantt Shafiullah Khan said that the four US citizens were employed at the US consulate in Islamabad.
