International manhunt on as Chinese woman flees US after fatal crash

The Porsche (left), that crashed on September 30, was driven by 26-year-old Ting Ye (right). She is now wanted for vehicular homicide as her fellow passenger was killed in the crash.

Police in the United States have issued an international arrest warrant for a 26-year-old Chinese woman involved in a fatal drunk driving incident in which her fellow passenger was killed.

The suspect, Ye Ting, and the victim, Liu Yabao, 27, also a Chinese national, both worked in Seattle, Washington. It is believed that Ye has fled back to China.

The incident occurred in the early hours of September 30 in Seattle, Washington, where Ye, reportedly intoxicated and driving at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour (160 kilometers per hour), lost control of her vehicle, causing it to flip and crash into a wall. Ye survived with minor injuries but Liu, who was in the car, was not so fortunate and died at the scene.

Ye was taken to hospital but refused to cooperate with any investigation.

Court documents also mention that one of the first responders at the scene "smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from Ye."

A photo of the Porsche (left) that crashed on September 30 with two people inside and a photo of the skid marks (right) left when the Porsche crashed.

On October 9, a court issued an arrest warrant with a bail amount of US$2 million, requiring Ye to surrender her passport and remain within the state of Washington, unless allowed by court.

However, after leaving the hospital on October 6, Ye was driven by an acquaintance to Vancouver, Canada, and on October 10, she apparently flew back to China.

On October 27, US authorities issued an international arrest warrant, stating that "we just want to make it clear to Ms. Ye that she is wanted for vehicular homicide. We need her to come back to speak with us."

"She has a warrant in the system if she ever tries to enter the United States, she's going to be immediately arrested. We need her to just come back, take care of this, so the family of the victim can move on," the police added.

Please give it a rest, since no breath test was taken at the scene of the accident no drunk driving charges will stand in courts second she stayed in hospital before leaving so cops had plenty of time to charge her which they didn't and most important performance vehicels like that carry 5 million insurance for bodly harm,so this whole news stinks of BS

Absolutely hate people like that who drink and drive. China should lock that bi*** for 15 years.

This is not even worthy of a news reporting. There're hundreds of drunk driving EVERY night in EVERY US metro. Many people learned the trick of not taking the breathe test -- of course under the advice of very good lawyers graduated from Harvard, Princeton, Yale, etc. Even her travel to Canada then back to China was advised and taken by thousands before she did. Big pay checks for the lawyers. The end of the story.

Back to the ethnic killings in Gaza supported by India and the US.

Are you covering all vehicular homicide in the US, or just the ones that involve Chinese Nationals?

The Chinese already cover the non-Chinese committed crimes that happen in the US. In fact there are sticky threads created for them to specifically post to.

How often are foreign nationals flying to China and causing deaths and then fleeing the country?

Maybe it just happens so often in China that you think it is normal and not worth writing about.

WTF? What would that $5M have to do with anything???
So if I had $500M in insurance insurance I could run people down left and right without worry or something???? Those Palestinians and Jews would be driving on the sidewalks right now in front of each others places of worship causing a slaughter if that was the case.

Just because you have insurance doesn't mean you are exempt from causing deaths.

There is no extradition agreement between China and the USA, so the Chinese judiciary will have to reopen the case.

The Chinese judiciary needs sufficient evidence, which requires the cooperation of the US govt. If the US govt is not willing to provide sufficient evidence, she will be acquitted.

She's not a criminal until the court makes a judgement, just a suspect.

Please respect the law, and please respect human rights.

I have some non-legal questions: Since the injured person Liu is a Chinese national and the suspect Ye is a Chinese national, why not handover the evidence collected to China and wash 'our' hands off, 'No dog in the fight' as Chinese may say. If Liu was sitting in a car driven by Ye, going at 100 MPH, and smelled alcohol when he got in the car, should Washington taxpayers be working very hard at obtaining international arrest warrant against Ye? If we arrest her, will we try and sentence her in Washington State at Washington taxpayer expense? I will chalk it up to Liu is not very smart or was charmed too much by Ye. Just wondering.

That's a pretty bad precedent.

So you are saying anybody could go to China with a friend and drive like a maniac and as long as nobody from China got hurt then it is all fair and no foul.

Maybe we could schedule weekly trips for people to race around.

No, if two Non-Chinese go to China and commit a mischief that matters not a whit to Chinese, why not collect the evidence and send it to the country of foreigners for prosecution and call it job done? What is the interest of Chinese to investigate, prosecute and keep the foreigner for the duration of sentence at Chinese taxpayers' expense?

That should be the approach, let US provide evidence.

Remind me of this case.

The State Department has rejected a request from London to hand over a U.S. diplomat's wife who fled the U.K. last year after she was involved in a head-on car crash that killed a young British man.

According to local police, Anne Sacoolas was driving on the wrong side of the road when she hit 19-year-old Harry Dunn, riding a motorbike, on Aug. 27 in Northamptonshire, in central England
