Persons making audacious remarks against constitution should go to Pakistan: PM

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina Wednesday said those who can say they would throw away the national constitution and throw it to dustbin should go to Pakistan, as they do not believe in sovereign and independent Bangladesh, reports UNB.

"The opposition leader (Khaleda Zia) said that she would throw away the constitution and some of her associates have wanted to throw it to dustbins. How audacious they are! They do not believe in the country's independence and sovereignty. They should go to Pakistan," she said.

Hasina said these in her opening remarks at the Awami League (AL) working committee meeting held at her official Ganobhaban residence in the afternoon.

Strongly commending the opposition leader's remark on the constitution, the PM said that if she (opposition leader) would have respect toward the constitution, she could not make such remarks.

"She has forgotten that 3.0 million (30 lakh) people sacrificed their lives and 0.2 million mothers and sisters sacrificed their honour to attain the constitution of independent Bangladesh."

Referring to a condolence message of the then PM Khaleda Zia on the death of a Pakistani General, Hasina said that being a prime minister she (Khaleda) had sent a condolence message on the death of a Pakistani General. "We all know where her (Khaleda) heart lies."

She alleged that the opposition leader and Jamaat are trying to save the war criminals and the killers of Ivy Rahman and others who lost their lives in the August 21 grenade attack. "But they would never be able to save the killers and the war criminals," she said.

The PM said that during the AL's upcoming sitting the Election Commission (EC), the party will emphasise on further strengthening the EC.

"The EC is independent now. It will be further strengthened to arrange elections in free and fair manner."

She also said that the AL government never tries to influence the EC.

Hasina said that with the 15th amendment to the constitution, avenues of grabbing the state power unconstitutionally that had began after the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman have been stopped forever.

She said: "People have got their power back through this (15th) amendment. This amendment has safeguarded the people's empowerment."

The premier said the opposition leader is now "crying" for the caretaker form of government, but when the AL in the past spoke about this, she (the opposition leader) had commented that none is neutral except a mad person or a kid.

"If she (Khaleda Zia) demands the caretaker system of government, she has to admit that the last caretaker government had done the right thing by filing corruption cases against her and her sons."

She said that it was the last caretaker government which found out that Khaleda Zia had "plundered the money of orphans under the Zia Orphanage."

Hasina said the people now want to see the country's democracy running uninterruptedly and economic emancipation is attained.

. . . .
Anyone who does not agree with Sheikh Hasina is automatically a Rajakar and should go to Pakistan (somehow that is supposed to be an insult). One of the elements of the constitution is democracy. But we all have to vote for Sheikh Hasina, or else its not democracy. We have to agree with everything said and done in the constitution which btw has been amended w.o any opposition. And anyone who does not accept this changes are rajakars, which is about a good 80% of the people.

I don't understand how come you people talk like these. Calling a country's PM a b*****d and its constitution bloody. If you don't like it stay away but don't insult such way.
whatever comment she may have made must have been on emotional grounds as these talks are not generally brought in public.

she said the right thing, an insulting comment for any patriot, if he/she is referred to enemy country... just like if I say to you hindustani...its insult...

anyways, she is using the bashing statement to gain sentiments in her argument's favour. which shows she is weak in defending her side in the matter at hand.

Their democracy is still taking baby steps and is yet to mature.

Should not blame them.

It's a sign of weakness or frustration. Pakistanis regardless of who is running Bangladesh, have a favourable view of Bangladesh and its people; even if we feel that a great nation like Bangladesh is run by a bunch of pro-indian lackeys.

Why should she tell Bangladeshi citizens to move to Pakistan just because they belong to the 'other side' (i.e. the Opposition)

How can she call herself a ''champion of democracy'' if she views the opposition and its members with such a contempt that she almost seems to imply they have no belonging in their own country

Pakistan and Bangladesh have at least one thing in common; 2 countries that are being run by people who dont genuinely care about the country and its interests.
