Randall G. Shriver, a senior Pentagon official, is coming to Dhaka next week to boost cooperation in other sectors, including two military agreements with Bangladesh. During the visit, the Indo-Pacific Security Affairs Assistant Secretary will discuss with the Prime Minister's Security Advisor Tariq Siddiqui, Foreign Minister Mohamed Shahriar Alam, senior officials of the Armed Forces Division.
The United States is keen to sign the Acquisition and Cross-Service Agreement (AXA) and the General Security of Military Information Agreement (GISOMIA) to increase military cooperation with Bangladesh. In the meantime, they have proposed this. Under these two agreements, the United States cannot sell high-tech weapons to anyone without Gisomia.
The matter was discussed last June between Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque and US Secretary of State Under Secretary David Hale. After the meeting, a joint statement said, "The United States has requested Bangladesh to continue discussions to protect confidential military information." Bangladesh has also expressed interest in continuing this discussion. ”
A senior government official said, "Both countries are keen to work on this matter and a platform suitable for both parties is needed, where trust can be established."
Bangladesh has already announced the Forces Goal 20 and the United States can be a supplier to implement it.
The issue of military cooperation has been discussed at various levels with the Foreign Secretary. Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque met with Randall in Washington last June.
