KABUL: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, in his Eid-ul-Azha message, on Friday said peace with Pakistan was Afghanistan's national agenda.

Ghani reached out to Pakistan, offering “comprehensive negotiations” to bring peace to the troubled relationship between the two countries.

"We want peace which is based on unanimous political views," the Afghan president said, adding that the world now knows that it is not possible to pressurise Afghanistan into doing anything.

In his address at the president house in Kabul, Ghani said the country was ready to take steps for regional peace and stability, based on logical debate and reasoning.

"I am reaching out for peace to everyone," he said. "Because peace is God's commandment."

Ghani called on the Taliban, who have been fighting to drive out international forces backing the government, to accept peace.

"It is time for the armed opposition of Afghanistan to choose whether they are fed on the milk of the mothers of this country, and are inspired by this nation, or whether they are the tools for disunity, chaos, used by outsiders," he said.

He added that peace negotiations were open for all but Afghanistan will not bow down before any group or country.

The statement from the Afghan president comes a day after US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis ordered additional troops to the war-torn country, 10 days after President Donald Trump announced a surge in US forces to battle advances by the Taliban.

On August 21, Trump announced a new Afghanistan policy to knock back the Taliban that could see thousands more US troops deployed, on top of the 11,000 there now.

The decision came after a deep review of strategy in which US military leaders convinced Trump to back off his election campaign pledge to pull out of the war-torn country.

Islamabad accuses its western neighbour of allowing its enemies to find sanctuaries in Afghanistan, while Kabul routinely accuses Pakistan of harbouring Taliban insurgents.

Border tensions have strained ties between the neighbours. Afghanistan refuses to accept the Durand line as the international border and skirmishes between the two armies have broken out amid Pakistan’s attempts to fence it.

Afghanistan is celebrating the Islamic holiday of Eid-ul-Azha which commemorates Prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son. Pakistan will celebrate Eid on Saturday.

stop your hypocrisy... peace is your national agenda but blaming Pakistan is your national policy. if you are really serious about peace then secure and fence the durand line from where you blame us about cross border terrorism. No thanks untill you dont cooperate with us to secure the durand line we cant take you as peace maker.

And remove the Indian consulates and other RAW staging posts that are straddling the Durand. Also remove the terror outfits such as Mullah FM et al. Then ask to the Yanks to go home and there will be peace.

that's the problem we can only ask what Afghanistan can actually do. and Afghanistan can only cooperate us to secure durand line. but Afghanistan always create hurdle and blame us. The pot calling the kettle black

but yes Afghanistan should cooperate us by intelligence sharing about Indian funded proxies against Pakistan. and i dont think that ANA & NDS will share authentic intelligence about Indian funded proxies because of Indian influence

He's obviously feeling the squeeze of us sending home Afghan refugees and the persistent blockade we impose on the Afghans. This is NOTHING compared to what Pakistan is capable of doing to Afghanistan if we went full monty :D and without even firing a shot :azn:

We should get rid of Pakistani Taliban first.

We should get rid of Pakistani Taliban first.

Let's get rid of millions of unwanted Afghans in our country first. Send them home. Half of our problems will disappear along with them. Then we can concentrate on the Taliban after.

I like your thoughts Mr President but it time for some action. Please kick out Indian mission that are acting as shelters for terrorists, cleanse the NDS off all the anti-Pakistan, pro-India and pro-Terrorism elements and watch your mouth next time you open it.

First the terrorists after that come the unwanted Afghans.
