Hey, PDFians, during our first annual PDF Lahore Dinner (@Alpha1 , @Azlan Haider @Jazzbot @danish falcon @Pakistanisage ) we thought of making a mini-course like threads where the aim is not to be debating but to learn. Where Azlan suggested things like Islamic history , I thought of indigenous history especially of the Punjab, ancient history and so on.

My idea is to have an outline and materials available here on PDF on every Monday and we could have collective discussions on these topics every Friday and Satruday and then move on to the next one.

Give me ideas about what else could be done. We could ask our Profs @Joe Shearer @Xeric @jhungary @Pakistanisage @RASHID MEHMOOD to give us some headers on the military management, organisation, tactics and so on.

What do you guys think?

If the point is that some members will finalize contents (i.e. History) and will be posted here and debate is not allowed than it's up to management, If you want to allow members to criticize contents if they find something wrong than my question is that do you really think current lot of members (irrespective of nationality) is mature enough to handle this?

I'll have it in the seniors section where I've mod powers so if things go out of hand I can step in. If our aim's to learn and not to debate it won't come up to mud slinging.

and here when I saw the Notification - I thought @jaibi - my man will be running some courses on Counter Terrorism and Surveillance - how stupid of me -....

on the later note - good idea, teaching history - but be careful on Islamic history

We could do that too, mate, if we get the experts for it here on PDF.

PDF online course, yes would be nice if some courses can be outlined like the outlines at universities. Subject can be "Pakistan Studies", "India Studies", "Bangladesh Studies", "Middle East Studies", "International relationship and geopolitics", "Economics", etc.

1. first make an outline of topic to be covered on each subject of study
2. Make documents, notes, assignments, articles on each topic by members and share as pdf.files under the indices of topic.
3. suppose if someone covers a topic like Two Nation theory under Bangladesh Studies by providing own chapter like assignment as pdf file, he will earn points/rank here.

Below you can see the example of how a free online courses and online conference and Free Monthly Webinar [web+seminar =webinar] are done. This online method is getting popular in BD.

online university: Islamic Online University
Webinar: Islamic Online University

We have a section called "Military History and strategy". This is the best section for reading and learning process where respected members post some really quality stuff. A little bit of refurbishment of this section like deleting some unnecessary threads and centralizing focus on pure research based articles will be great.Sadly I do not find some old threads like "Battle of Hydaspes" based on a book by W.W Tarn any more. These threads consisted excellent learning materials which helped me a lot as you won't find Tarn's books in libraries so easily.

These days I am increasing my speed on reading Islamic books what we need to do is make new threads on Islam and Islamic History and other topics and also our Pakistan Political history and I can help in that

Great idea!

But I'd recommend going with a wiki-type format.
Forum threads will be confusing to follow and it will be very difficult
to fabricate a proper structure.

Feel free to ping me if you guys need help setting up the technical
side of things.

Also, how about we stick with defense-related topics? There are plenty
of online sources available for other general studies. We have defense
specialists here. Let's stick with our niche.

I've thought about teaching a Zionism course here. It would have to be severely moderated, though, to maintain its "Pakistani" character. Plus I've not decided if such coursework should be free rather than paid for by the students.
