Passport, visa must for crossing Torkham after Jan 31
November 18, 2016
KHYBER AGENCY - The forces and administration authorities through a notice have asked Pakistani nationals to produce their passport and visa while entering Pakistan at Torkham border.
Signed by the Commandant Khyber Rifles and Assistant Political Agent (APA) Landi Kotal, the notice that was pasted on all public places in Landi Kotal and Torkham read that after January 31, 2017 no Pakistani citizen would be allowed to cross the border into Pakistan without having legal travelling documents.
The notice also read that those find violating the law will be dealt according.
Earlier, the Pakistani nationals who used to produce their national identity cards at Torkham border on return from Afghanistan were permitted to enter Pakistan. The administration official while confirming the new policy told that the initiative had been adopted to regularise the border movement.
The tribesmen felt their regret over the implementation of passport and visa rules on the local tribals. They said if imposed, it would suspend their ties with relatives in the border towns of Afghanistan. Malik Darya Khan Afridi said that on both sides of the border, residents have blood relations and in case of attending a funeral or other social gathering, they have to seek visa of Afghanistan for a brief visit of an hour or two. He endorsed every single policy regarding border management but he asked to formulate pro-tribal rules and regulations on the Torkham border.
Malik Abdurrazaq, another tribal elder, while expressing his view on the matter said that the local tribesmen would be more affected by the decision. He demanded of the authorities to provide relief to the tribesmen while implementing passport and visa formalities. The tribal elders also comprised a nominated elder jirga, which would meet the commandant Khyber Rifles in few days to apprise him of their reservations. Since the creation of Pakistan, the local tribesmen have been exempted of passport and visa regulations by Pakistan and Afghanistan.
