'Fontgate': Microsoft, Wikipedia and the scandal threatening the Pakistani PM

Court finds that Nawaz Sharif’s daughter in 2006 disclosed link to firm named in Panama Papers, but disclosure was typed in font not available until 2007

The date of the public release of Microsoft’s Calibri font has become an unlikely factor in an alleged corruption scandal in Pakistan.

A company linked to the daughter of Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif was named in the 2016 Panama Papers leak, leading to a supreme court investigation.

High-end London property bought with what was referred to in 1998 by the head of Pakistan’s federal investigation agency, Rehman Malik, as “ill-gotten wealth earned through corrupt practices”, is owned by two British Virgin Island companies. One of them, Nescoll, had Mariam Nawaz Shariflisted as the sole shareholder.

The resulting report said Sharif had disclosed her ties to the firm. But the 2006 disclosure was typed in Calibri, the year beforeMicrosoft made that font publicly available, leading to allegations the documents were forged, and an online campaign calling it fontgate.

Pakistani media and opposition parties took to Wikipedia to investigate the claim, while someone allegedly tried to change the article’s content to say Calibri was available from 2004.

While the online encyclopaedia says the font was developed by a Dutchman, Lucas de Groot in 2004, it adds that Calibri only reached the general public on 30 January 2007 with the launch of Microsoft Vista and Microsoft Office 2007, when it became the default font.

Guys and gals! Take this seriously. All hell from Noonys will be raised on this The News supposed investigative rebuttal of JIT... It is based on the feelers being given by noonys in every single presser...their cat is out of the bag via noorani.

Im continuing my point here...
Hussain Nawaz himself admits in Ahmed Noorani piece that the Sharif Family owns Capital FZC.

Who is the head of the family?

To who all the money trails lead up to?

Who gets 88% of profit from Hussain Nawaz company?

Factual Answer: Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif

So the JITis not misleading the Supreme Court here, it is right on the money with its report Mr Norani.

Wow Mr. Norani, the source of your investigation is Sharif family sources and you question JIT report? What a joke and what nerve. Exceptional investigative journalism indeed.
WOW!!!

Norani and his Media Godfather is badly craving for Punishment, may be an year or two in prison, they i ll have their lesson on monday when contempt notice will also be heard by the bench against norani and company.

Aisay waisay notices... aisi aisi penalties lagaee huee hain companies par.. Chaudhry Sugar Mills ko tou sahi se investigate nahi karnay dia gaya warna Shahbaz Shareef pehlay hi disqualify hojata..

Regarding Ishaq Dar, since he is a CA as well, I am sure he has tallied up his income vs income tax record already.. That's why I believe he (with the help of NAB) constructed fake document much later..

Iss ke tax returns ki ink-dating honi chahiey.

Salaam bro. What is your gut feel.

Is all of this heading towards another round of army rule for Pakistan?

Cheers, Doc

May soch raha tha kay 1981 say lay kar near future tak to manual return filing thi ......... aik final (stamped) copy to dar sb kay record may to honi he chaiay thi aur original FBR k pass, agar dar wali copies NAB lay gai thi to FBR wali kahan thi ........ khair iss kay returns may say kuch bara nai nikalnay laga siway tax saving k ........... ubi b flaws hain forms k andar baytukay forms hain specially other expenditures wgaira ka column yo smj lo misc ka portion hy jiss ka smj na ay dal do tally karny k liay.........

Kafi mehnat wala kam hy iss k tax returns ko parhna aur findings nikalna considering he has been resident and then non resident in different periods, different sources of income and changes in tax laws every year, aur opper say yeh khud b munshi hy. Waisay acha case scenario banta hy final k paper k liay

Walaikum salam jeetay raho .......... kahan ghomnay gya hua tha bai? :D

The days of Army rule are gone unless these idiot politicians force them into taking over. I think NS will use all delay tactics to prolong his tenure and meanwhile decide what he and his party needs to do before 2018 general elections. He could have made a history by simply distancing himself from the post and handing the charge to other suitable person in his party ........ things would have been lot better that way for him ...... now he and family have been exposed badly on top of it he is keen on clinging to the post. Imagine yar 3rd time prime minister and he still relies on the same idiot advisers ...... or may be he doesn't listen to anyone and it's all him putting up this show.

But I am glad one thing all this proved is if institutions are let to work without any influence and meddling they can deliver upto expectations of Pakistani people. Positive sign.
