I hope not

Lekin us case main kisi ke specifically against petition nahi thee.. Yahan tu PM ki disqualification ki petition hai.. Karachi badamni case main general verdict chal sakti thee ke rangers se report le li, police ko bulaaya, agencies ko bulaa liya... Lekin yahan kiun ke PM ki disqualification ki petition hai, tu judges agar dismiss bhi karein ge.ltab bhi unhein legal arguments tu denay hi honge ke kiun dismiss karrahay hain? Is liyr iska verdict karachi badamni case se different hoga

I think he meant 'mulki corruption' case is likely to follow. SC is likely to take up a similar stance against countrywide corruption with the institutions reporting directly as they are in Karachi badnami case.

Was taught about this case in high school. All American kids learn about it..

Marbury v. Madison (decided in the court of Chief Justice John Marshall in 1803)

Google it and it's implications. Also, google Chief Justice John Marshall (supreme court judge that practically established Supreme court as the third pillar of U.S state after congress and Presidency).

In a nutshell, Chief Justice Marshall overturned an act passed in congress (hence consolidating the institute of Judicial Review) and acted as a 'decider' between President and Congress deadlock. By doing so, Justice Marshall cleverly established Supreme Court as THE deciding institution in the United States, and hence being a bit more powerful than even Congress or the Presidency.

All of these things look 'common sense' to average American now because strong legal precedents and history has firmly established the Supreme Court is probably the most powerful institution in the United States' Republican set up. All of this wasn't by accident, but law giants of U.S Supreme courts crafted this institution via strong legal precedents and at times unpopular steps to provide justice as they deem necessary. For example, ending racial segregation in the Public schools in the United States was a Supreme Court decision (brown v board of education). It was SO contentious that the President had to send military forces to enforce the order (since governors and political authorities refused to obey the order because entire population was against it).

I'm dead sure that our justices are aware of this history in far more detail than me. Hopefully they realize the chance they have at their hands. There's a reason U.S did not produce Nawaz and Zardari at consistent basis--even though it has trillion times more wealth to be looted by the corrupt than Pakistan. Rule of Law and accountability of the most powerful goes a long way in establishing long-lasting and prosperous constitutional republics.
OK the Marbury vs Madison, yup i have read little about it. However, if i may, i will like to point out that:
  1. While the judge reversed the orders of the ex-president he did followed what the in-power president wanted him to do.
  2. Thomas Jefferson was the person who stopped the commission to be delivered to Marbury, Thomas Jefferson was the president then and judge Marshall also denied Marbury the commission.
I am not sure as i have never tried to read too much into this but from the surface, i do not see this case any different as it was still favoring the in-power person after all. May be there is something that i misunderstood?

Yes he did followed the constitution more than the congress but then again, "incidentally" this is what the most powerful man in USA, the president, wanted at that time as well so . . . . . . . . . . lucky coincidence?

If it is against corruption, it is better late than never!! We are already past that "red line" so as they say, do not hurry when you are late because you are already late (actually no one says that but ME :P ). So i huge decision like this that means that being in power do not mean that one can loot this country will have enormous positive effect that it happens this week or the next wont matter too much.

I do agree on point that it is better late than never as we are already into transition phase (I hope so). In few decisions one cannot waste a day even but matters like this that needs time to be dealt once for all, takes time and also, a bit hurry could be like providing an opportunity to the guilty party to play a victim card that we always witness. So yes, it has to be done and mere week or so wouldn't make any difference as compare to life long loot and plunders.

(actually no one says that but ME :P )

If it is of a kind that the corruption is essentially declared legal as long as you are in power then, well, whether it start or today or tomorrow, the loot will destroy the country pretty quickly so the timing of when it starts do not matter really.

Well, as soon as the cancer started to spread it doesn't matter whether the cancer exist or not but things need to be done to cure it before it takes life so a bit delay in process is expected but saying that there is no cancer, is totally criminal in this regard. The process to cure the cancer has begun and everyone is off the opinion that it will bring some good news because existing of cancer is not the matter or the same point is already established however, you will be aware that still few in power trying to undermine the existence of cancer by diverting the focus from real issue while labeling the process as political revenge etc. Week or so, doesn't matter and I agree that only proper Justice is need of hour.

In short, getting a decision THIS WEEK is not as important as getting the RIGHT DECISION. The case is crystal clear, the truth is out in the open, the only thing that can save NS here is if SC decides that they are to save the PM and then it is pretty easy for them to find ways, LEGAL WAYS, to do just that. Remember, if the SC decides to save PM it wont be a problem and can be done legally without any trouble. So let us hope for justice more than we hope for swift justice!!

True that as we should expect the Justice rather than a quick decision that wouldn't affect or would do better for already miserable lives. I must say, despite our wish for things be done ASAP, better justice will impact the long lasting affect and will be beneficial for generations to come. I don't think that SC will try to save NS but on other hand, let's see how the decision is being made in the name of system as well that we cannot afford any derail of the system which is not corrupt but people though. I hope that the case may not be disposed off due to any technical ground or any verdict saying "Due to National Interest" is going to harm a lot so hope for the best of justice.

Side-Note: Many missed what @HRK said but I can see the pattern of similarity in both cases, I mean the end point where verdict was clear to tell people that who created chaos and are criminal yet followers are unaware/don't want to pay heed to the judgment but still supporting the same corrupts.

I hope not

Yahan tu PM ki disqualification ki petition hai..

only IK's & Shaik Rasheed petitions, Siraj ul haq (of JI)petition is against all of the person whos name are appeared in Panama leak including NS as well as against those who are involved in loan write-off scam ....

whos name are appeared in Panama leak including NS

NS name is not in panama leaks.... and pti has provided 0 proof of maryam being his dependant (news paper cuttings excluding)...

I dont know why my pti colleagues are so anxiously awaiting decision...

They will have an enormous task of damage control after decision if ik has to survive in politics... especially after his shenanigans of last week... phateecher and every thing...

'Nazreen - e - muhtaram, jo corruption kartay hain wo apnay naam pe koi cheez nahi rakhtay' - King Nawaz (pleading gesture with hands open)

He exposed himself even further after such a statement to the nation :sarcastic:

Boss no body is against punishing persons involved in corruption...

But u cannot punish people on perception alone... u have to prove it... in a court of law...

White collar crime is seldom proven... even in west...

Even donald trump has had alot of issues with law... always managed to walk scot free.... i m afraid this is likely out come here as well .... fruitless excercise

Here's to wishful thinking

Nabeel Gabol lol. Yea, totally credible fella he is.

Hmm... Mujhe bhi aisa nahi lagta... Ye tu bhtt channels par log baat karrahay hain ke verdict aanay ke baad fauran election main jaa saktay hain.. Lekin ye pehli baar kisi ne kaha ke verdict se pehle hi resign kar ke chala jaye.. Ye baat sahi nahi lagti... Is liye hi yahan share kia...ke koi aur is se agree karta hai ya nahi?

I think nothing will happen.

SC will leave the decision to the Pakistani people to determine their own future in 2018.
