Panama Case - Post Verdict Discussion and Updates

No one outside court to greet them what happened not even the 6 or 7 people they paid to be there?
@PakSword
They seem to be working hard in silence, their success or failure shall make all the noise...

Don't fall for the cunning deceit of playing all but withered, frail, almost defeated and given up hope by the wolves in sheep skin Sharifs.

The silence of Sharifs is to "help deal makers" to woe the concerned to go soft or at least get the powerful to agree to "a soft bench" for appeals in due course. Anything that gives them any sort of favorable outcome.

Just imagine...why the deafening silence even from twitter savvy Baji Sharif?

I think that their brokers are at this moment busy, trying to get the concerned with considerable constitutional powers to agree; not for a favorable decision; or any personal gains - but to a sum in billions to be donated in dam fund for just a tiny favor of not anything else but benches similar to the recent IHC one... perhaps along the lines of the one that disallowed reopening of Hudaibya case...

Mark my words; They will only break their silence when they fail at every possible avenue of power to get any form of favor to save their skin.

@PakSword @Farah Sohail NAB has its fair share of absolute corrupt but elsewhere as in new appointments too are ready to help their kind in-kind.

Having people like Imtiaz Tajwar in the mix, what are we expecting NAB to do in prime cases of Sharifs. What does this man has up his sleeves that he gets away with crimes himself after admitting and endsup favorite of every chairman NAB.

Baffles me too but I hold Sharifs chiefly responsible for diminishing if not obliterating the line between Halaal and Haraam i.e. since 1985, when "Khata hay tu lagata bhee hay" becomes the norm for a nation then it bears such fruits as we are reaping ever since...

This is why Bayghairat Haram khor people like Sharifs and their goons like MushahidUllah have the nerve to stand in the NA and speak shamelessly about their selfrighteous sleazy nobility while he himself spent 51,000 UK pounds of the exchequers for his own treatment in London that is cheaply available in Pakistan. How can MushahidUllah explain those million spent on his own illness like that???

Govt suspends official who stole Kuwaiti delegate’s wallet

ISLAMABAD – The federal government has suspended a senior government official of grade 20 who was caught on camera stealing the wallet of an official of the Kuwaiti delegation.

The Kuwaiti delegation was in the country to attend the two-day Pakistan-Kuwait Joint Ministerial Commission meeting.

The head of the Kuwaiti delegation complained on Friday that he had lost his wallet, following which the CCTV footage of the room was inspected.

Shockingly, the footage showed Investment and Facilitation Joint Secretary, Zarar Haider Khan swiping the Kuwaiti official’s belongings, bringing shame to the whole nation.

Soon after the officer was caught red-handed, Economics Affairs Division (EAD) Secretary Ghazanfer Gilani instructed the officers concerned to register an FIR against the 13th common DMG (now PAS) officer in the PS Secretariat Islamabad; the accused was later arrested and legal proceedings have been initiated against him.

I think its more about upbringing... not just because of one or two governments..

Yes, its about upbringing too but as a nation, you tend to do what you think is acceptable in your society and the environment you live and breath...If it is corruption that becomes acceptable from the top down, then people usually don't mind cashing personal bills as official spending knowing and thinking its no big deal when the rulers are having a ball every which way. On the other hand people with better upbringing usually do keep to their code no matter what but its still not everyone's cup of tea either when it is an everything goes fest all around.

Oh, by the way, CJP's comments about PTI officials are becoming an interesting phenomenon.

When will IHC bring out its detailed judgement on suspension of Sharif's jail terms?

Court irked by Nawaz’s absence
FAZAL SHER

ISLAMABAD: Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik hearing corruption cases against the Sharif family members Monday got annoyed over non-appearance of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif before the court.

At the start of hearing of the Flagship reference, Munawar Iqbal Duggal, an associate of lead counsel for Sharif, Khawaja Haris, submitted an application before the court seeking adjournment of the case for two days due to Haris’ illness.

When the judge asked about Sharif, Duggal said that according to his information, the accused is on his way to appear before the court and requested the court to give him five minutes to confirm it. Upon his return, he again requested the court for more time to talk to his client.

On this, the court warned to cancel Sharif’s surety bond and issue his arrest warrants if he (Sharif) fails to appear before the bench.

The judge also asked about the associates of Haris who had submitted their attorneys before the court. On this Duggal said that they are Lahore-based and could not reach.

The judge observed, “We understand that Haris is ill but his associates who are present in the court on every hearing are also absent. If the associates of Haris were present here today (Monday) then we could start crossing-examination of witness Wajid Zia,” he added.

Duggal told the court after 15 minutes that Sharif did not appear before it owing to some confusion. “He has contacted Sharif and he told me that he (Sharif) is leaving immediately from Lahore and if the court allows him, he will reach Islamabad within three hours,” he said.

While opposing the defence counsel’s request, Deputy Prosecutor General National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi said that the accused did not appear before the court without filing an exemption plea. He said that the defense counsel wants proceedings of the case according to his wishes. He requested the court to issue arrest warrant of Sharif for non-appearance before it.

The judge scolded associate of Haris but accepted his assurance regarding Nawaz’s appearance on future hearings.

The court observed that the request could only be accepted as far as the Flagship reference is concerned and adjourned the hearing till October 04.

The court said that it will hear the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case on Tuesday (today).

Al-Azizia reference proceedings postponed due to Khawaja Haris' absenc, again.
An accountability court in Islamabad on Tuesday deferred trial proceedings in the Al-Azizia reference against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif due to the absence of the defence counsel.

The ousted prime minister was in court to attend the hearing. However, he did not speak to the media on his way in or out of court.

Due to senior defence counsel Khawaja Haris' absence in court, the judges accepted a junior defence lawyer's application to postpone the hearing.

According to the junior lawyer, Haris did not appear in court as he was unwell.

"We will not comment on Khawaja Haris' illness," National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor Sardar Muzaffar said in response, adding that the law allows junior lawyers to continue the proceeding in the senior counsel's absence.

"We postponed yesterday's proceedings due to the senior counsel's absence as well," Accountability Judge Arshad Malik said while pointing out that even the the co-counsel on the case was also absent from court today.

Earlier in the day, before appearing in court, Nawaz spent two hours at PML-N leader Abbas Afridi's farmhouse.

Before his arrival in Islamabad, a scuffle broke out between an Islamabad Police official — who was a part of Sharif's security squad — and an elite commando who was posted outside Nur Khan Airbase. Other officials on the scene intervened after which they were made to sit in their vehicles.

Transfer of Al-Azizia reference to Judge Malik
On July 6, accountability court Judge Mohammad Bashir had announced the verdict in the Avenfield properties corruption reference filed by NAB, handing the ousted prime minister 10 years as jail time for owning assets beyond known income and seven years to his daughter Maryam Nawaz for abetment.

Later on July 16, Sharif, through his counsel Khawaja Haris, had filed an appeal in the IHC for the transfer of Al-Azizia and Flagship references to another accountability court since the arguments in both cases were similar to the ones given in the Avenfield reference. Days later, Judge Bashir decided to recuse himself from hearing the two pending references.

During the course of arguments on the appeals seeking transfer of pending references, Haris had argued that at least 12 grounds were common in the three NAB references against Sharif.

Furthermore, Sharif's counsel had claimed that judge Bashir had discarded these facts before announcing the verdict on the Avenfield reference.

The cases were then shifted to the court of Accountability Judge Arshad Malik.
