It wasn't on day of Turkish elections and it was a support for Turkey and Turkish people in general but you are right that there is no handing.

Frankly the the best deal in town that the Arabs had was Ottoman/Turkey. Had they supported it and fought man to man with the Turks in WW1 I am pretty confident there would have been united Muslim world with no Isreal today. Instead by going against the Ottomans at a critical time in world history they ensured the birth of Isreal and themselves have more divisions than chambers in a beehive.

Instead they went running around with a English guy playing "Lawrence of Arabia". I sincerely believe the day Ottoman Empire collapsed that was the end of the 'Muslim world'. It exists no more and never will. The reason for unity you need a powerful force that the rest can rally around. The USA plays that role in the western world. Even today in 2015 the west would just dissolve with USA playing the role of high sheriff.

With the end of Ottoman Empire the entire ME and North Africa has become a hotch potch of rivalry and competing groups which reminds me of 19th century Europe. The Palestinians got 'freedom' from the Ottomans only to be enslaved by the British and then had their land sold right underneath their noses by a officials sitting in London ( Balfour ) to some Poles, Ukranians, Americans.

As a Pakistani I am not exactly proud of our role. Some of those British regiments that fought in Mesopotamia in particular in Basra Governate were made of ethnic Pakhtun/Punjabi's against their fellow Muslim Turks for the sake of the Kings Shilling. Some did refuse to fight once they found out who they were fighting.

Of course some refused to fight and even switched sides as these Pakhtun/Pashtun unit did:-

Today the Muslim world is paying the price for this. The past informs today and today will go on to inform the future. So those flags are being flown nearly century too late.

I don't see where you draw the correlation between the two. Turkey has no intent to takeover the ME. Turkey under AKP that is. Look at Syria, they had opportunities to take territory or build Turkish government institutions or send army instead they took in highest number of Arab refugees. So according to logic of some people here Turkey wants Arabs to occupy them.

This no longer era where occupation/colonization happens easily. Only Israel gets away with it. The rest try exerting influence by spreading their ideologies. Like Iran, it tries very hard converting Arab sunnis to Shia. Because it desperately wants control. For the West, they promote secular (liberal or not) only because it gives them political leverage over them not because they're any more humane than the opposition. Actually most times that's not the case.
