Pakistan's top court frees men convicted of kidnapping and murdering Daniel Pearl

A dysfunctional country that depends on the IMF for a bailout & FATF in order to do business with the world, is in no position to talk tough to others, especially to the US.

Fundamentals aside, Pakistan has ethical and legal requirements to punish terrorists. This is not Pakistan doing anyone a favor. It’s an expectation whose failure to deliver comes with a price your country can’t pay. No terrorist should be allowed to walk free after be heading innocent people on television.

Your country spent the better part of the last decade rehabilitating its image. It did so to be taken serious at the international table.

Then it threw everything away, right when an American administration engaged in diplomatic review of its relationship with Pakistan, was taking office. The judgment and the timing were both an own goal. I can see your frustration which is manifesting itself through this brave face, but you and I both know the consequences.

If wishes were horses....

The entire relationship with Pakistan is being seen from terror prism.

The frustrating part with Pakistan is that it doesn't complete its position.

So, are we trying to anger the US, or be friends with it? If anything, our inconsistency is probably more harmful than anti-US position. How so? Well, on the one hand we're obviously angering the US, but on the other, the likes of China and Russia can't fully trust us. That's the worst position to be in.

This is our foreign policy in a nut-shell (i.e., pick a Goddamn side).

It’s not just foreign policy, its domestic, social and religious policy that runs to the same wicket, or drops the bat and starts fielding out of the blue.

The same courts of the same country also released CIA trained terrorist Raymond Davis without any trial or punishment despite killing two innocent Pakistani citizens. At that time no western media raised any voice.

CNN reporter who covered Pearl case in 2002: This is a shocking development

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN)Pakistan's Supreme Court has ruled that four men convicted of kidnapping and murdering American journalist Daniel Pearl should go free.

Pearl was working as the South Asia bureau chief of the Wall Street Journal in 2002 when he was kidnapped in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi, while reporting on Richard Reid, the British terrorist known as the "shoe bomber."
The high profile abduction drew international attention, amid growing concern over the threat posed by radical Islamic terrorism.

Assailants later filmed Pearl's beheading and sent it to United States officials. It was among the first propaganda videos targeting hostages created by extremists, and helped to inspire other terror groups to film horrific and egregious acts of violence.

Four men were arrested in 2002, and convicted of the kidnap and murder of Pearl. One, British national Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, was given the death penalty.

In April last year, a high court in Sindh province, where Karachi is located, overturned the convictions of three of the four men and reduced Sheikh's sentence to seven years in prison, meaning he was eligible for release on time served.
The court said the men had "suffered irreparable harm and extreme prejudice" after spending 18 years behind bars prior, and in December ordered all four to be set free, but both the Pearl family and the Pakistani authorities appealed to the country's Supreme Court, which on Thursday ruled against them.

According to a statement from lawyer Faisal Siddique Said, the family was "in complete shock" at the majority decision, which they described as a "complete travesty of justice" which would endanger journalists and the people of Pakistan.
The statement urged the US government "to take all necessary actions under the law to correct this injustice" and added that the family hoped the Pakistani authorities would also act.

The four men, who are still in detention following the court's ruling, have been placed on the country's exit control list, barring them from leaving the country, according to Pakistan's interior ministry.

SC order to release Denial Pearl's murder so will this cause us issue in FATF for Pakistan in the upcoming review?

India will play a emotional and bollywood style of acting in upcoming FATF review and try convince FATF members.

Exactly this double standard.
Problem is they do things what they believe in, no apologies, we on the other hand will bend in any direction just to please them. PM khans latest remarks on how we need to stop this is perhaps from the only leader who understands that bending can take you only so far but nobody respects you.
On subject SC has given judgement, if the grieving party feels its not right, make an appeal, but we are more concerned about what are foreign masters will think, screw the law or evidence.

Qureshi, US secretary discuss Daniel Pearl case
APP

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi talked by telephone to newly appointed US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken on Friday and discussed with him bilateral ties, Afghan peace process and the Daniel Pearl murder case, official sources said.

Mr Qureshi congratulated Mr Blinken on assuming the office of US Secretary of State and underscored Pakistan’s commitment to forging a comprehensive partnership with the United States based on convergence of interests on a whole range of issues.

Mr Blinken was sworn in as the 71st US Secretary of State on Jan 26.

Highlighting what he termed “the transformation in Pakistan”, the foreign minister stressed that the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan had “a new vision that placed a premium on forging an economic partnership, building a peaceful neighbourhood and enhancing regional connectivity”, said the sources.

Foreign Minister Qureshi told Secretary Blinken that peace in Afghanistan, through a negotiated political settlement, was one of the “fundamental convergences” that existed between the two countries.

It was essential to have a reduction in violence that could lead to a ceasefire in Afghanistan and to work towards securing an inclusive political solution in the war-torn country, the sources quoted Mr Qureshi as telling Mr Blinken.

Pakistan facilitated the Afghan peace process and remained committed to working with the United States as a partner for peace, he added.

Mr Qureshi also highlighted Pakistan’s “resolute measures” as well as its immense sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

Secretary Blinken recalled that Pakistan and the US had a long history of cooperation and had a range of areas to engage in. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by the people of Pakistan in the fight against terrorism.

In the context of recent developments in the Daniel Pearl murder case, the foreign minister underscored that it was in the interest of both countries that justice was served through legal means. He highlighted the steps being taken by the authorities in this regard.

Foreign Minister Qureshi and Secretary Blinken agreed to remain engaged and work towards advancing the bilateral agenda and promoting common interests in the region and beyond, according to the sources.

these people have no honour just like they always make promises and then backtrack, always playing cloak and dagger which eventually blows in their face and then they make some feel good justification and scapegoat someone. now they have backtracked from afghan peace deal. I hope Pakistan has acquired tech from China to deal with the new terror coming.

Simply don't understand the people logic...they just want to hang a person as US wishes the same..without any fact...it's like SC should view decision not on truth but wishes ....

Is it true that the accused had no hand in pearls murder other than the abduction and prosecution couldn't prove murder charges in the court ?

Anyways we need to understand that a white christian was murdered in cold blood and the 18 years spent by abductors in jail are not enough for our Oxford breed to face the evangelicals

one more thing we do know is the kind of ####### biden is and the reason why it got installed! I guess instead of waiting for the coming eventuality its best to use a catalyst and seek a fast track to it so we can make our moves.

This is my opinion.
