Russian and Indian economy is also very poor with respect to much of the other countries, this ranking is about MILITARY not ECONOMY, they are two distinctly different things, if you cannot differentiate between the two then you do not belong on a defence forum, if you wish to counter this ranking do it on basis of facts not BOLD FONTS !

The fact remains that Pakistan/India/USA are some of the most frequently engaging Armed forces in the world, hence they take all the points in experience, secondly, they have manpower way larger than any European Armed force, another plus for them, thirdly, they have greater weapons by number, finally they have proven themselves worthy of their ranking, India deserves it's spot because it beat us in 71 and in the Kargil episode, under whatever circumstances that is a completely different discussion, point is they did and we deserve ours because we have kept a military 5 times our size at bay in 3 wars and countless periods of tensions. Another edge we have over the European powers is that we are the only country that by far can claim victory over the Taliban, we have not only made them abandon their areas of control but their command and control structure has been devastated and their attacks left less effective than ever before.

It's not on net, military stuff.................but I cannot agree to the ranking that puts Afghanistan at 40th, although I respect their struggle to establish their country as a contributing member of the world community I do not think their military with a 25% desertion rate deserves to be ranked 40th in the world !

iN MODERN WAREFARE manpower tanks and nos of missles are useless. Wat counts is technology, real time intel, training and mobility.

3 Squadrons of Typhoons or Rafael or Japans F15E would win any air war over PAF or indeed IAF.

The navies of all 3 Japan UK france could easily blockade and starve Pakistan.

Pakistanis & indians or any arabs are not smart, hyper modern, or tech savvy like the Europeans or Japanese.

These countries have conquored and won world wars they know how to fight.

In modern warfare country A having 300,000 troops but modern equipment compared to country B having 600,000 troops but old equipment and not being able to equip troops to certain standards. Results in Country A steam rolling Country B. It is all about technology and the level of training (both are needed not some of one and none of the other) This is why Israel destroyed the Arab armies. They were out numbered when it came to everything but the things that mattered.

I think battle strategy,military tactics,Coordination among troops or rather distribution of command etc play more important role.

With lower casualties, you are much mistaken, though the Vietcong and NVA were victorious they suffered casualties in the hundreds of thousands, it is estimated at over a million soldiers and civilians were lost by the North and their erstwhile allies.

Take Vietnam war for example,despite the Communist forces being outnumbered and probably possessing less better equipment compared to their opponents emerged victorious,also with lower casualties.

No way...the casualties on vietnamese side were staggering. It was victorious because the us widthrew after the turmoil back home. It not only the armed forces that are put to test in war.....the political system/civil society also has a big factor.

Remember the IPKF in Sri Lanka???
