Pakistan's National Assembly passes resolution to publicly hang child sexual abusers

.
Public hanging should not be encouraged. State should not make death a spectacle.

Ok fine, how about a live telecast at the state t.v. I assure you geographic and discovery Channel shall have their fair share of ratings . Always loved the American justice system always .

Lolll.. I thought clutch is also blonde..
No no no he's one of us with an accent :P

In the 1600s it would have made sense to have public executions in your neighborhood square.

However, in modern times is this still such a great necessity???

Well we actually thought we have evolved and dont need such old age things but turns out we cannot evolve through crime. With large population, crime rates increased, with increase in materialism, there is more greed and crimes. Therefore i feel there is a huge need to deter people. The main aim of punishment is for the onlookers to learn a lesson from. In societies like Pakistan where govt control is not strong and population is high, such optics are required to keep crimes low.

Actually there should be some amendment in this bill , Should be hanged from balls in public .

oh yes! capital punishment is much needed for those sicken humanity.. all those who are convicted sud be hanged in area where in live... 8 year old got molested and killed in our neighborhood by few men 2 years ago police caught them but lack of evidence they got away... his elder brother is 14 year old and his personality is messed effect that incidence to whole family.

Public hanging good a message to future that ur end is near so the crime rate decreases behind closed doors wont have any impact

By European logic, even death punishment is not required.. Why put someone to death when "gone is gone"? Put him behind bars for the rest of his life, eating three times free meals from the tax payers' money!

God will eventually punish him in the hereafter.

European standards emphasise rehabilitation>punishment. Whatever you think of this model, their crime rates are much lower than the rest of the world, as are their recidivism rates.

I think it matters more how you organise and structure a society and an economy. Punishment, deterrence vs rehabilitation is an afterthought IMO.

On the subject of this thread. I understand the death penalty for such criminals. I even understand naming and shaming them before courts and in the media as is already done. But only thing this extra step achieves is to (arguably) make perpetrators think twice, and for people’s anger to be quenched.

I don’t believe this will be a deterrence, there’s nothing concrete to suggest that. And people’s baser needs to see an animal hanged feeds need for vengeance, not the need for justice or need for law and order.

Instead of any actual benefits, the costs are that it will make us look barbaric in front of the rest of the world. Global image is a fickle thing and ours is so poor already that it harms us as a country at every stage.

Last argument that comes to mind is that this step seems like grandstanding and crowd pleasing to me. Rather than effective policy making and governance.

The country is dealing with widespread economic crisis and inflation. We need to attract investors and not scare them off with public hangings etc.

And on tackling child predators. Actual work that can be done involves educating and empowering children and parents. Making dedicated hotlines for people to report cases or suspicions. Making sure perpetrators are dealt with by police. Building up authorities’ experience in how to make effective court cases and to record evidence so that these people are prosecuted. Training social workers for how to help child victims recover and regain confidence so that incidents of abuse don’t ruin their lives.

^THAT is the real work that needs to be done and more. This public execution idea is just a cheap grandstanding effort by useless NA members who can’t make actual progress and prefer to make headlines instead.

They should stop wasting time and actually do their job as lawmakers.

When people are not deterred by merely hearing about death punishment, they should actually watch it so that they know how much pain they will have to bare before death...

So would you then force people to watch? Will Lahore stop and everyone head to Gadaffi stadium to watch the public execution? Make it a public national holiday that day so everyone can leave their homes and watch the handing or head chopping?

Why not take it a step further ???.. parade the body in the streets... And in the malls...make sure everyone watches.

Of course I'm being sarcastic here .. im exposing the absurdity of the whole issue of public executions.

Pakistanis are emotional being... Rarely do they think rationally... This blood thirst to do public hangings is coming from emotional anger against the crime if child rape and murder. I understand it is the worst crime possible.... But the punishment shouldn't become a blood test for revenge.

No I think we should just leave the perpetrator.. Any form of punishment is savagery.. Imagine putting people behind bars.. they are like animals in a zoo..

How will we deal with this?

Well.. according to Islam, he is a baligh!

Let me ask you simply who is to blame..
Society for allowing space for such upbringing?
Parents for not properly teaching the child?
State for not implementing strict law?

If hanging people were to fix the problem then such cases would've been a thing in the past long ago.
Root cause and socila restructuring will fix the problem to an extent and rehabilitation will fix the other part.
Hanging will just show state is equal in barbarity as the person committing such acts, both playing with peoples lives

And in the information age, we have a woman getting raped every hour in Delhi.
Wonder why?
You hear because there is law and order and a vigilant public who speak against it. If you don't hear that in your country, despite stats showing a worse case, then something is wrong there.
