Pakistan's first motorcycle taxi service launches in Islamabad

Cargar, a ride sharing motorcycle service, aims to provide an affordable solution to heavy traffic congestion. Initially launched in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Cargar aims to reduce carbon footprints by providing a motorbike-taxi service.

Uber set to launch in Karachi soon

“Cargar is an innovative start-up aiming to provide customers with smart solutions to over-charging, traffic congestion and intensififying of carbon footprints. With Cargar, you’ll experience secure, inexpensive and efficient transport which shall not only reinvigorate the road infrastructure of twin cities but also reduce civic issues,” a statement on their website said.

Much like Careem and Uber, Cargar aims to launch a similar app-based platform for bookings. For now, Cargar has a taxi point at the G-9 and F-8 Kachehry Metro Stations. Cargar charges Rs15 per kilometer and an extra Rs20 for service charges.

“Cargar aims to provide maximum safety for its customers with helmets made mandatory for all riders and passengers,” Cargar CEO Faran Ahmed told The Express Tribune. After settling in Islamabad, Cargar aims to expand towards Lahore and Karachi, he said.

Careem offers free WiFi service to customers during rides

Pakistan’s e-commerce sector has been recently witnessing exceptional growth spurred by the advent of 3G and 4G services that have revamped the way global companies look at the country as a viable investment destination. Pakistan has also seen a rise of ride sharing services with the introduction of Careem and Uber in the country followed by the launch of Rixi and Travly, rickshaw ride sharing platforms.

.
A riding service for male Students and policemen only? I don't see this business to survive in Islamabad.

Well students and office goers will prefer to use it over congested ride metro and vans
You know if people could reach Peshawar more from I-9 in 50 Rs it will be successful
I actually see it expanding all the way to Nilore and Barakahu

. .
Motor bikes are just waste of resources , and petrol just carrying 1-2 person max

Any direct competition to Metro and you are done. It can be an alternative to cabs but to a limited number of commuters, female commuters Nil, young students Nil, office going may be a minor percentage but most will still prefer Metro because it drops them right in front of their offices and is air conditioned. It leaves male students who may enjoy riding bikes in winters or summers but most of the people would prefer ACd buses.

Shit idea and will most likely fail. I mean motorcycle taxi.

Motor bikes are just waste of resources , and petrol just carrying 1-2 person max
Chay man motor cycles are 5-4X more efficient vis-a-vis cars.

Sure in short run it may catch on but in long run after arrival of a proper metro project it will not be ideal form for travel
it will attract single demographic more

a) Student who need a cheap ride to school / university (Mostly 7 am - 9am time frame)
b) Odd worker who need to reach work daily (Mostly 7 am - 9am time frame)

A good metro bus can take 100 people same amount or fuel or similar vs 1 bike carrying 1 guy or girl (doubtful if girls will chose this form of travel)

  • Taxi : a recent 5 Year old model should be allowed
  • Extended SUV/Pickup : a recent 7 year old model should be allowed for families

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rickshaw
Scooters :astagh:
Ching something Ching
Motor cycles :astagh:

These items all should be banned from roads
As soon as Metro is established (100-200 passenger capacity sevice)

AC Bus > Motor bike

New Jobs should be created
  • City Cleaning Garbage Pick up Truck Driver (With training of course)
  • Sweeper Trucks Drivers
  • Tree planting & Watering Crew
  • Beautification Projects
  • Speedy Mail Service etc Courier
  • Food delivery

I had to go from my university in Islamabad to my house in Rawalpindi a couple of times and the cabbies always charged me around 1000Rs. This service will be very effective for students and working class.

Lagta hay ap kabhi metro mein gaye nahi hain

Yeh haseen ittefaq ubi tak nai hua aur jiss umer may may Isb ki galian paydal chantta tha uss waqt kissi mehrban nay metro bnany ka socha he nai tha :D. Ub ALLAH ka karam hy :)

Plus points:
Motor Bikes are faster in traffic jams witnessed by twin cities and they can take narrow alleys and pathways too, making commute faster than a car.

Minus Points:
- Risk of accident is more
- weather (Rain/Hail or extreme heat)
- limited space for luggage
- Not beneficial for women alone or with children or maybe even a couple.

Important:
- helmet laws for passenger? BYO (bring your own?
- Pillon Riding (double sawari) issues when section 144 is ordered to be administered.

what about motorcycle taxi service in month of Muharam?

and what about the service when "Double sawari pe pabandi " Drama during security related sensitive days?

If you have 1500 students that want to go to university , you need 1500 Motor bikes burning fuel
Vs 15 buses carrying 1500 students in 20 minute ride, in AC. Un Effected by rain

Buses offer more efficient means to carry large group

The extra bike taxi will just add to clutter on road causing more traffic jams

Now lets expand this example
30,000 workers need to go to work in morning , would need 30,000 bikes to transport them
vs same can be done with 3,000 Buses.

3000 buses vs 30,000 more clutter on road

The impact would also be on the usage of Fuel by city (3,000 Buses vs 30,000 Bikes)
