Pakistan's Economy Under-estimated, Karachi Equities Undervalued

A city where 30-50 people are killed every day in Mafia wars cannot expect any value for its equity. Whoever wrote the article needs to seek medical help for his delusions!

If you look at this sad aspect from the good Riaz Haq's perspective, several analysts are bullish on the gravediggers economic activity, since this vibrant and vital sector will lead to development of funeral homes and increase sales of white cotton.

Obsession... What else.. Why else would you compare a $ 40 billion stock exchange with another one that is over a trillion dollars ;)

KSE even don't have a decent looking building.

its a pretty decent looking building, the beauty lies in the eyes of beholder, why does even the building matter? if you see islamabad stock exchange building its a modern building, KSE building is very old one and reflects the economic heritage of our city

You call this building decent, :cheesy: looks like an old rehayashi apartment building.

The OP is famous for once a month bringing out feel good articles in which he states the economy is not really bad as it look , its just misunderstood.

wonder who his target audience is?:)

True that. Do you think the US doesn't have an informal economy? Imagine if we counted it.

That would be insanely Crazy number man . I don't even want to think about it or i will get lost in the number of zeros , the way these pseudo economic analyst throw crazy numbers from the top of their hat .

All Pakistanis rejoice, for it is proven that Pakistan is a trillion dollar economy!

Now let's dig up the coal and copper and oil and diamonds that are everywhere, and it will grow into a 'leventeen bajillion dollar economy very soon. :D

At 2.33 PPP factor, Pakistan's PPP GDP of $401 billion translates into $934 billion.

But at 2.9 PPP factor as used by the Indian govt, Pakistan's economy is already $1.163 trillion.

Even with the run-up (in KSE-100), Andrew Brudenell, manager of the HSBC Frontier Markets fund (HSFAX) in London, says Pakistan is one of the cheapest markets he follows, at about seven times earnings. He notes that earnings growth has kept pace with the market. The firms, he adds, are typically cash-rich, boast strong return on equity levels in the 20% range, and pay good dividends. In Pakistan, the informal, cash-based economy for goods and services is larger than the formal economy. Barron's, November 17, 2012
