Since Pakistan always takes action in reaction, and that could end in self damage because of lack of deep thinking and holistic approach, the opportunity to eliminate terror sanctuaries in Afghanistan after the “Sehwan Carnage” has been botched, even after paying a heavy price.
Enemy using terror as a strategic weapon to strangulate Pakistan economically, politically and internationally. So what has been Pakistan’s response?
1. Handing over a list to Afghanistan officials
2. Request to General John Nicholson to cooperate
3. Artillery fire in Pak-Afghanistan border areas
Going into any kind of negotiation at this time was a huge silly mistake. It gave Afghanistan puppet Govt the chance to attack Pakistan back diplomatically as they have backing and guidance from India. Now real issue of terrorism in Pakistan from TTP and its affiliates and from BLA and like outfits could go under some fog and Pakistan will be asked to go after Afghani Taliban and stop supporting Kashmir struggle or at least provide a quid pro quo.
General Raheel had also spoken in the past with General John Nicholson to bomb TTP hideouts. Some action was taken but now bigger troubles like Daesh have taken roots in Afghanistan.
Pakistan again lost the opportunity to go after terror sanctuaries in Afghanistan operated by RAW and NDS by just resorting to some artillery fire and closing Torkham Border.
A sustained strike from air could have eliminated the training centers which would have sent a strong signal to all that Pakistan is not a country at the level of Afghanistan and can take appropriate actions to defend its interests. After that Pakistan could have engaged Afghan Govt to resolve issues from a position of strength.
