True, Pakistani basmati rice is everywhere in UK so I don't see any threat for basmati rice... we have huge demand for these high quality rice and a huge potential to increase exports in every country of the world that imports rice
All that may be so. However every country that imports rice does not eat Basmati rice. Few do, its only countries in ME and parts of Europe and N.America that are looking for Basmati. Not Myanmar, for instance. Or even Phillipines!
About Phillipines now embarking on Basmati rice cultivation; India has something to do with it. The Scientist who played a major role in executing India's "Green Revolution"- Dr. M.S. Swaminathan helped set up and ran the Rice Research Institute there. Since Phillipines was a net rice importer and struggled to meet local demand. That changed the whole scenario.
The Indians at it again, hunh!
