Asking you because in post #14 you came up and cleared his position on his behalf. The article says Pakistanis Hindus (Pakistani Hindu council) and human right activists, called on authorities. Not to mention apex court takes notice without a formal petition.

Taking cognizance of the matter pointed out by Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) Chairperson Zohra Yusuf, the chief justice summoned detailed reports within two weeks from the Sindh chief secretary and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) administrator on environmental assessment studies and the possible threat, if any, to the Shri Ratneshwar Mahadev temple.

In a letter addressed to the chief justice on Friday, the HRCP noted that business interests in complicity with the KMC officials had started the construction of underpasses and flyovers around Clifton seafront without any prior notice.

Such a major venture, according to the commission, would vandalise the very face of a historical part of the city. No environmental impact assessment as mandated by laws was carried out. Ground vibrations from excavation and eventual high-density traffic running so close to the 150-year-old temple could cause the collapse of this irreplaceable place of worship, the HRCP feared.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani on Monday called for detailed reports from the chief secretary of the Sindh provincial government and the administrator, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) within two weeks with respect to environmental assessment studies and the potential threat, if any, to the Shri Ratneshwar Mahadev temple which is threatened by construction of flyovers.

The Chief Justice took notice of press clippings from different newspapers dated March 22 containing the statement of chairperson, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) stating that an old Hindu temple

in Karachi is threatened by the construction of underpasses and flyovers at Clifton. Last week, the HRCP sought the intervention of the Chief Justice to protect the Hindu temple in Karachi in a letter.

HRCP chairperson Ms Zohra Yusuf noted that business interests in complicity with officials of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) had started construction of multiple flyovers and underpasses around the Clifton seafront without any prior notice. She said that such a major venture which would vandalize the very face of a historical part of the city, has not undergone the Environmental Impact Assessment (with public hearings) mandated by law. The HRCP was concerned over the adverse impact that this project could have on the more than 150- year- old temple located in a cavern within a few meters of one of the underpasses which is visited by thousands of Hindu and Sikh devotees.

"Ground vibrations from excavation and from the eventual high-density traffic running so close to the temple could cause this irreplaceable place of worship to collapse," she is quoted as saying in the statement. The Hindu community in Sindh had been experiencing escalating human rights violations over the past few years. "The Laxmi Narayan Mandir, located at Native Jetty, near the Jinnah Bridge on M. A. Jinnah Road, had its access, privacy and environs severely affected a few years ago by another commercial project, Port Grand," she said.

The letter called upon the Chief Justice to summon KMC officials to explain the matter and ensure that all necessary steps were taken to protect the temple.

In the same article i said why, i supported to change the title to Pakistani Hindus.

yes mashallah. The religious sites of all Pakistanis must be protected on all moral, humane ground. I do not understand why some Indians always turn this into a war between Muslims and Hindus, or Islam and Hinduism.

That temple is an iconic for Karachi. It is Pakistan's history, and is also a living worshipping place for the Hindu community. It is ironic, why even this issue has risen? Is it because some people are of the opinion that Pakistanis don't really care about the religious places of minorities among them?

Are there similar rallies when mosques or heritage monuments are under threat from commercial construction in Pakistan? Of course there are.

Construction of overpass and skyscraper threatens structure of ancient temple in Karachi.

Pakistani Hindus and human rights activists are calling on authorities in Karachi to halt the construction of an overpass, which they argue threatens the foundation of a 150-year-old Hindu temple. Activists say the overpass construction, metres away from the Shree Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple, is creating vibrations that could severely damage the building’s structure.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Tassaduq Hussain Jillani took action on the issue by ordering an environmental impact report from the government to be submitted within two weeks. The overpass is financed by Bahria Town, a real estate developer that wants the road to link to a skyscraper it is building a few hundred metres away.Arguing for the temple’s protection, the Pakistan Hindu Council says the skyscraper is being built on “evacuee property”, or land abandoned by Hindus during India’s partition. Under law, such property is supposed to be protected from development.

According to the Pakistan Hindu Council, around 25,000 pilgrims visit the temple during annual religious celebrations. The Shree Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple is also part of a popular recreation spot.
