Pakistani work attitude

can Pakistanis enlightened me on:

1)How many days do the typical Pakistani work per week
2)How many hours do the typical Pakistani work per day
3)How many public holidays are there per annum
4)Is there any Caste system in Pakistani society(like the Indians)
5)Is there any principles of Meritocracy being applied on in Pakistani society.

In a way yes. However it's very faded in terms of influence. It primarily exists within Hindu and Christian communities. Hindus and Christians for example primarily make up our street sweepers, maids or other jobs that are looked down upon - they have been doing this for generations.

In the Muslim population, the Caste system has little influence. We are mostly divided into clans and tribes which may be associated with different fields of work. Such as the Gujjar and Jatt tribes are associated with agriculture.

Another example can be the military, many of our officers and soldiers have a military lineage and tradition that traces back to hundreds of years.
 
1).. 6 out of 7 days roughly..But it depends upon where you're working..In Universities and banks and other fedral departments its Mon-Friday..

2).. 8am to 4pm...Typically its 8-9 hours.

3)There are many holidays..Including 2 at Aashoora, 1 at Eid Miladun Nabi(P.B.U.H), 3 at Eid-ul-fitar,3 at Eid-ul-Adha, 1 of 14th August..Independence day, 1 of 23rd March..Pakistan Day, 25th December ..Quaid's death.

4)..Yes there is caste system..But less strong and firm than India...We treat all as human, eat together, celebrate together etc... But it exists when the marriage proposal is considered but that is also negligible now a days..People have been broad-minded and make relations on the base of humanity not caste.

5)..Yes...!!! Merit is being held in every field..Though not followed firmly because alot of corruption but still it is..And it's satisfactory.

1).. 6 out of 7 days roughly..But it depends upon where you're working..In Universities and banks and other fedral departments its Mon-Friday..

Strong only in some places in India.You cant see such a rigid thing in modern cities even tier 3 cities .
But like you said when it comes to marriage ,it would be indeed a problem .

So you again find mistakes among minority communities .
AFAIK even in India ,Muslims will look their social background and SC/ST converts cant marry from elite Muslim families

1) pakistan is the country known for most holidays in an year. 6 days a week. 5 days a week in many organizations.
3) normally work timings is 8 hour a day.
4) there is no caste system in pakistan.
5) mostly merit is observed.
there are open merit seats and seats for every province according to
a- population of each province(in federal government jobs).
b- in case of jobs in provincial government organization most seats are kept for locals.

minorities can apply for every job, they want to. they have to just meet the eligibility critea.

Monday to Friday for private sector. Some Government and semi-Gov places are open on Saturdays as well. Office timings vary sector wise. Most tech companies, telcos etc work from 9AM to 6PM. Most Gov offices are open from 8AM to 4PM.

40 hours where worker contracts are enforced. Possibly up 70 or more (including overtime on weekends) where contracts are not enforced or present at all (a lot of semi-skilled and low skilled labourers/factory workers etc).

A lot of people identify with their tribes, region and castes. But these things do not have any official recognition, unlike in India. You can get preferential admission to a university if you are from a rural backward area no matter what your surname is. And I haven't seen it play any role at all in any private sector workplace so far. So in the context of your other questions, the answer would be no.

... depends. Private sector, you bet. Government jobs, admissions in government universities meh.

5-6 days.

Depends on your job.. some people slave from 8 am to 4 pm...

Eid,Chritmass,hindu festivals and national holidays..

No we dont have untouchables... and no rigid caste system.. in Panjab province we have different "castes" but they are merely for identification rather than some weird cultural shyt...
People marry among other castes,ethnicities etc..

Private sector yeah.. govt universities and other govt services (high grade ones)..

No Chauvinist, don't agree with that.

Merit is held only in private enterprises. But in public service it is a catastrophe!
Merit in police, buereucracy, civil service? NO WAY!

Agreed out of 360 days we work 200 days

First Pak should bring weekdays on Friday rather than Sunday we are Islamic republic not western republic either remove islamic republic or Sunday as vacation

I have had experience supervising manual labourers as well as management staff in Pakistan. Among the white collar & management satff, I found the 20/80 ratio. That about 20% worked hard & diligently but 80% were just happy to do as little as they could get away with. Among the manual labourers, very few liked to put in an honest day’s work. On the other hand at the National Engineering Laboratories, East Kilbride, Glasgow; my first full time job experience, I found it was 80% who worked well and only 20% were just below average. However among the manual workers, the attitude was still trying to work as little they could get away with.

Surprisingly, Pakistanis when they work outside Pakistan, nearly all of them work very hard. I came across one who was notoriously lazy at the Esso Keamri terminal, but he was working very hard in the 50 C heat in Kuwait. I asked him the reason and he replied:

“Sahib, Pakistan ki naukry mein barkat naheen”. Implying that money he earned in Pakistani job did not go very far. In my opinion, success of places like Singapore & Dubai has lot to do with the fact that most employees put in a good day's work.

I would like to qualify that since the above observation is based on my personal experience and it is not necessarily applicable to all Pakistanis.

Summary: It is not the worker, but the system that is responsible for productivity.
