A Pakistani Taxi driver Asif Hussain Shah who drives his cab mainly in Rawalpindi/Islamabad and is citizen of Rawalpindi is the person who thought out of box and written a book. His book is named ‘For Hire’, the book is based on his daily experiences while driving his taxi, mostly based on experiences and thoughts he heard from passengers who traveled in his taxi.

Following are few photos of his taxi featuring himself.

Asif Hussain Shah not only wrote the book, he gone one step further, he used his cab as a moving bill board to advertise his book. He used the space on sides and behind his taxi to attract more buyers of his book and spread the word about himself. The painted ads on his taxi mention his book ‘for hire’ and they also tell people to search Asif Hussain Shah on Google. Though he himself don’t have any official website for himself but relies on what other people post about him on internet.

This tactic of painting ads which ask people to search about him on internet make more and more popular with more and more people taking his taxi’s pictures and uploading them on to internet. Same ads given him the media coverage as few TV channels have also covered him.

His idea of online marketing, by an offline ad and no official website to date, worked like charm and now you will find thousands of online posts covering him and his book. Not only this as he travels around more and more people take pictures of his taxi and put them online.

Asif hussain shah wrote his book ‘For Hire’ not only to have separate source of income but also to preach the good values of Islam, he points out lots of issues in this Pakistani society and how to cope with them. Following is a video captured by a TV Channel which features Asif Hussain Shah and provides his thoughts about the book. The video content consists of both English and Urdu language.

Asif Hussain’s book was the first book in Pakistan which is written by a taxi driver in Pakistan or even first in Pakistan by a person who is in a non-intellectual profession to earn his living. He proved this that anyone can write his daily experience and share them in form of a book no matter he/she belongs to which profession.

Asif hussain shah, as shown in above video still have not stopped writing, he continues to drive his taxi and continues to write while dropping the passengers on desired places in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

If you decide to read Asif Hussain Shah’s book ‘For Hire’, I will recommend that you buy it other than downloading from Internet, so he gets his share which he deserves very much.

Cabbie surveyor hints at 3-yr parliament term

ISLAMABAD: A survey conducted by a motivational cabbie Asif Hussain Shah revealed that 65 per cent public of the twin cities demanded reduction in constitutional tenure of the parliament from five to three years.

Talking to Daily Times, Shah said that he conducted two different surveys in last two months from 1000 travelers riding in his cab. “The outline of my survey forms in hard copy were comprised on three questions each, and travelers filled those forms immediately,” he said.

“The first survey was designed to gauge how to get rid of government if it fails to deliver to the general public questions and how to avert martial law, midterm elections by bringing about change through good governance, while the second survey dealt with kitchen expenditures that included, what is your current salary, what is nature of your job, and do you meet your expenditure within your current earning,” Shah, 42, maintained.

Over 65 per cent people were of the opinion that if the government fails to address the problems of general masses, parliament’s constitutional life should be limited to three years instead of 5. “Majority of People pointed that mindset of general public has changed as they have become impatient and want immediate change for welfare of every individual,” Shah said quoting his visitors that three budget presented from a government were well-enough to judge what and how much relief it could provide to its people.

In second survey, over 70 per cent people were of the opinion that they were not satisfy with their current salaries to meet domestic expenditures. “With the unbridled inflation, it has become impossible for many to eat three time’s meal as soaring prices of kitchen items including cooking oil, flour, mutton, pulses, vegetables, and fruits are on record height,” shah said quoting people.

Shah said the country has been struggling with political and economic crisis and recent flood has multiplied the economic crunch by pushing the country many years behind. “Rulers are least interested in general public’s problems as over 80. per cent people are living below poverty line. We want a democratic government that could safeguard the rights of common masses to make Pakistan a welfare state,” he said.

. Earlier, in January 2009 Asif Hussain Shah wrote an interesting book comprising 35 short stories based on his experiences on the roads of Islamabad-Rawalpindi as a cabbie.

Despite becoming a writer, Shah said he would never give up his profession of a cab driver, because whatever he was today was just because of this profession. He said perhaps it was for the first time in Pakistan that a taxi driver had authored a book.

Pakistani Taxi Drivers Have Mad Google Skills,

Sam Smith — Go ahead: Search for "Asif Hussain Shah." Can't resist, can you? His plan is working, but that's nothing — wait 'til you see the interior. We're stone sober, and it freaked us the hell out.

This is Asif Hussain Shah, and this is his Suzuki taxi. He operates it in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, and he has written a book about his experiences behind the wheel. We don't understand what's up with all the tigers and triumphant birds and such, but then, no one has taken a picture of us and uploaded our face to the wire services. Maybe there's a lesson there.

Mr. Hussain Shah's book is called For Hire. It's not currently available in English, but you can read a review of it here. Check the crazy wisdom:

"I am neither a scholar nor an intellectual, but I see and feel life all around me and have tried to capture those moments of truth in my own words," Asif said. The effort gave him immense strength and enabled him to fight his depression away, looking towards the future with a new hope and zeal. Asif said that perhaps it is for the first time in Pakistan that a taxi driver has become the author of a book, but we all must agree that a common man [can] make it in the world of the affluent with simple dedication and hard work.

.
we have good people present as well!!....well done mr. asif

. . .
btw he reminds me of 'kafil bhai spin bowler ghotkee sindh' wrktten on every truck in Pakistan.
A cricket maniac who couldnt find his way into professional teams.. turned into a rogue 'truck graffiti artist'... wrote his name and skill on pretty much every long haul truck expecting a call.from a selector. this never happened.

. .
Positive approach

World must look at Pakistan from this point of view, cheerful and confident people.

My best wishes to him, his family and others like him :)

.
our media should also play a role in highlighting this kind of work and displaying the image of another side of pakistan.

.
