NEW DELHI: A 39-year-old suspected Pakistani spy, staying in India for the past 20 years, was arrested here with Delhi Police today claiming that he was tasked to collect defence related documents and sent it across the border.

Kamran Akbar, who was staying in Kolkata since 1992 and got married to a local girl three years ago, was apprehended by a Crime Branch team from near New Delhi Railway Station on February 13 on a tip-off, DCP (Crime) Ashok Chand said.

"He was recently tasked to come to Delhi to collect defence related documents which were to be sent to his handlers in Pakistan. The man was apprehended while he was on way to board a train for Kolkata after collecting the documents," he said.

"Sensitive" documents relating to Defence have been recovered from Akbar, who hails from Karachi, Chand claimed.

After leaving his studies in 1990, Akbar had taken up petty jobs and came to Kolkata on a valid Pakistani passport to visit his relatives.

"He came to India through Attari border and stayed with his uncle Mohd Salim in Kolkata. Akbar along with Salim and his associate Asraf Khan went to Goa. Salim had worked as a guide there and was well acquainted with Goa's topography.

"As they were short of funds they committed two house robberies in Goa and during the commission of the second house robbery, they were arrested. Akbar was released from jail in 1996. On his release he came back to Kolkata to the house of his relative at Ibrahim Road. There he got prepared an Indian passport in the name of Asif Hossain," Chand said.

On this Indian passport, he procured one month visa and went to Pakistan in July 1997.

Chand claimed military Intelligence agencies in Pakistan recruited him after they came to know that he had stayed in India and had acquired an Indian passport.

Yep this guy sounds like ISI material. He sounds ideal material to be recrruited. Sounds like the Indian authorities have hit jackpot with the capture of a "super spy". :coffee:

all that crying people do over Visa restrictions and family members not being able to meet is a cliche ?

do you think Indian authorities can really get any information from this guy? i don't think so. ISI people aren't stupid enough let this guy know any stuff that would be valuable to the captors in the event of a capture.

The Indians are incredibly dim to assume the ISI would hire a petty criminal. If the guy has got forged documents or has entered India illegally then thats a seperate matter but to think he is a Pakistani spy is a figment of everyones imagination.

No, the guy in question was caught with Military documents. Do you still think it's a figment of imagination. A petty criminal, with forged documents, Pakistani origin and caught red handed? do you still think this is false allegation?

certainly people wouldn't wait 20 years to just set up a petty thief.

You cannot expect rational behaviour from poor Indians acutely suffering from ISIPHOBIA. This insidious desease makes you see ISI agents under every bed and behind each door. We should not ridicule these poor Indians but sympathize with them for their Psychosis. We understand your condition dear Indian friends and we pray that you will have mental health soon, Inshallah.

Pakistani are incredibly overconfident of there ISi considering ...the mess Pakistan is in today lol.

From recruiting who*es to lure Indian officers, to sending in vagabond thieves..face it ISI is desperate.

its hilarious how they end up defending the ISI like its some thing to be proud of

they cant even Hide Osama bin laden properly.LAME

ISIPHOBIA IS A LOT MORE PREVALENT IN PAKISTAN THAN ANY PLACE IN THE WORLD.

for instance

Most of Balochs, some sindhi people, MQM fans and Party workers, "Liberal fascists!!?", innocent Pathans in NWFP, Hazara community..on and on..

This isn't phobia to begin with. It's a rational concern.

For the people of UK US India etc., ISI is a rouge organisation and a cause of concern .

You put a thread up regarding an arrest of a petty thief with supposedly dodgy paperwork then rather dimly go off at a tangent to start talking about Baloch and MQM - rather dim derailing your own thread?
ISI has held Pakistan together and kept our enemies at bay. I love to hear the UK US and India dont like organisation - they are not their to be liked - they are their to protect their nation. They have never had an agent caught and i dont think they are going to start slipping up by employing petty criminals so you can stop having excitable dreams.
BTW - nice flags you show and even better location. Who were you before you had to relaunch your ID? Wow some people are so obsessed with our nation they go to such lengths to come onto PDF!!

They keep getting arrested every week now.

Maybe RAW has decided to start working after all and not be lazy.

I agree ISI failed in the case of OBL.

if the ISI is not involved in OBL hiding scheme, then that would be a failure of not not knowing about wanted man inside their territory and in another case where ISI is indeed hiding the OBL, it failed in hiding him too. But, we gotta give them credit for hiding OBL from CIA for almost 6 -7 years.
