From Chinadaily:
"ISLAMABAD - Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday told visiting State Councilor Dai Bingguo that the Pakistan-China strategic cooperative partnership is the cornerstone of his country's foreign policy and that Pakistan is ready to provide strong support to China on all issues concerning its core interests.
Dai was on a visit to Pakistan to mark the 60th anniversary of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations and the conclusion of the China-Pakistan Friendship Year.
During the meeting, Dai said China is grateful for Pakistan's valuable support on issues concerning Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang, and China continues to firmly support Pakistan's efforts to defend its national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
China supports Pakistan developing friendly relations with other countries on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, and it also supports Pakistan in maintaining a safe and stable environment both at home and abroad, as well as its efforts to develop its economy, he added.
Zardari recalled his previous seven visits to China and said that Pakistan was keen to learn from China's economic and technological development and benefit from its expertise in defense, energy, industry, agriculture, communications, commerce and trade, Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported.
According to APP, Zardari said the recently concluded Currency Swap Agreement between the two countries was a landmark development and would help boost bilateral trade and investment as traders and entrepreneurs from the two countries would be able to use both the rupee and renminbi as exchangeable currencies.
But he also noted that there was potential for bilateral trade to be much higher, and called for it to reach an annual total of $15 billion over the next three to four years.
Bilateral trade currently stands at almost $10 billion, according to a speech Dai delivered at a ceremony in Islamabad on Friday.
Dai said China wanted to intensify its amicable and cooperative relationship with Pakistan.
"It is believed that happiness, when shared by two, will be doubled, suffering, when shared by two, will be halved," he said.
Major projects set up in Pakistan such as the Karakorum Highway, Gwadar Port, the Jinnah Sports Complex and the Pakistan-China Friendship Center bear testimony to China-Pakistan friendship, Dai said.
The ceremony on Friday was attended by Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, Speaker of the National Assembly Fehmida Mirza and other Pakistani political, government and military officials.
On Saturday morning, Dai met Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Khalid Shameem Wynne and Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and exchanged views on China-Pakistan relations, Afghanistan and other international and regional issues of mutual concern."
