Pakistan national picked up in Uganda
ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani national has been picked up by Uganda police on account of alleged involvement in Kampala terrorist blasts because he received an email of thanks from a terrorist organization. This email was forwarded by the Pak national to the attorney of his company within minutes of receiving it.
Sources privy to these developments describe the incident as: “Naufal Zamir Sheikh, 32, has been arrested by Uganda police following two bomb attacks in Kampala during the World Cup Football final match. On July 12, Naufal received email from one Abdilkarim Abdulahi Yusuf, on behalf of “leadership of Al-Shabab Muslim organization in Uganda and based in Somalia” thanking for effort in two attacks at Kampala. Naufal forwarded the email to his company attorney, Siraj Ali, within 30 minutes of its receipt.
Naufal and his lawyer visited the local police and shared the email with the police, the very next day.
On July 16 two journalists visited Naufal after receiving an email from the same Abdilkarim Abdulahi Yusuf (who signed his name as spokesman Al-Shabab) who provided the office address for Techaccess Africa Ltd. in Kampala and stated that they could interview Naufal Zamir Sheikh, the purported country coordinator Al-Shabab’s mission in Uganda. Naufal informed his attorney of the meeting with journalists and shared the email that the journalists had received the very same day.
On July 17, Kampala police arrested Naufal and six other employees of the company. Other than Naufal and Peter Ntale (who is Ugandan), four other Pakistanis were released on police bond after two weeks of police custody. One Pakistani was neither charged nor released on police bond. Naufal’s father, Sheikh Zamir Hussain, is an advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
