ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The last time a Pakistani army chief visited Washington, he got an earful from U.S. leaders worried that he was not a reliable partner in efforts to combat militant groups responsible for devastating attacks in Afghanistan.

Four years later, Pakistan’s newest military chief, Gen. Raheel Sharif, is scheduled to arrive in Washington this weekend on his first official U.S. visit. And this time, the most powerful man in Pakistan is expected to be greeted with far less skepticism.

Since becoming army chief a year ago, Sharif has overseen a broad military campaign against Islamist extremists in northwestern Pakistan. Although it could take months or years to fully assess its effectiveness, U.S. officials say the operation has boosted their confidence in Pakistan’s commitment to combating terrorist groups operating within its borders.

Last week, Lt. Gen. Joseph Anderson, a senior commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, told reporters that the Haqqani network — a Pakistan-based Afghan insurgent group — is now “fractured.”

US will not sell anything good to Pakistan, it's time for PD to shut the begging doors & look at Russia & China for permanent solution, NO MORE US.

Cause we don't need the gadgets you have posted in your post cause most of them are from the past ?
But as geological interests of the nation are changing , pak army chief needs greater understanding with the only super power & its officials ?
The event happening in Pakistan has enough able peoples to take care about that !

I think real cooperation would have been

a) Sufficient # of Super Cobras or Apache donated to Pakistan for effort on combating terrorism
b) Few division of Abraham Tanks to keep permanently in West Pakistan borders
c) Few dozen Drones

I don't like conditional relationships feels like marrige

I wish we still had Musharaf Sahib in rule of government

Till when?

Zulu delivery to USMC won't be complete before 2022. We need them ASAP for COIN ops.

During his recent trip to the United States, General Raheel Sharif visited the US CENTCOM headquarters in Tampa and held meetings with the Central Command’s leadership. He then flew to Washington DC and held meetings with the Deputy Defense Secretary, Robert Work, the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, and the Chief of Staff of the Army, General Ray Odierno. He also held meetings with US Senators and other government officials. During his trip General Sharif visited Fort Irwin National Training Center in California where he reviewed the professional training of troops and use of advanced equipment of warfare. The General also met senior military officials and trainers. In Washington he also held meetings with the National Security Advisor, Susan Rice and United States Secretary of State, John Kerry.

Pentagon Spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby provided the following readout: “The leaders discussed regional security issues and their commitment to an enduring partnership. They also emphasized the importance of sustained and substantive dialogue as we continue to develop the bilateral military-to-military relationship.” General Sharif in his address at the Pakistan Embassy dinner, before returning to Pakistan, said, “Relations with the United States were also on an upward trajectory.” He also said that he had very good meetings with his counterparts on boosting military-to-military ties.

It is important for both nations’ leadership to meet on regular intervals. We have always maintained that Pakistan is an important country in the region and that continued dialogue helps in bringing both nations closer. These meetings also help in maintaining positive bilateral relationship.
