Pakistan woman stoned to death by family for marrying man she loved

RIP madam, her only crime was to fall in love and for that she was killed? Truly sickening, may her wretched family members burn in hell for what they have done. I heard on the radio here in the UK that the father was arrested and said he felt no shame for what he had done and that he would do it again............there a no words.

Also may her husband have the strength to get over this. He must be in a very dark place having lost his love like that.

Honestly one cannot be but ashamed to be a part of the human race- the depths we will sink to over such tribal things is disgraceful.

Just seeing the responses in this thread gives me hope that this sort of behavior is on its last leg.

This has nothing to do with religion, that I am certain.
Nope not religion- just backward cultural mentality that exists in S.Asia as a whole. I agree though there is hope for the future, ignorance is what breeds these sort of monsters and as the region gets progressively more educated and open-minded the cases of these sorts of things will (hopefully) decrease.

I dont think british had anything to do with fcuked up social evils prevailed/currently prevailing in sub continent.
But some must have a bogey man to say 'Its nothing to do with us, it is all someone elses fault'.. and we are the Bogey man.
As long as this cowards way out is there to avoid responsibility- nothing will change.

Nawaz asks Punjab CM to submit report on 'honour' killing outside LHC

ISLAMABAD: Taking notice of the killing of a 25-year-old woman outside the Lahore High Court (LHC), Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has requested Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to submit a report on the incident, Express News reported on Thursday.

“This crime is totally unacceptable and must be dealt with in accordance with law promptly. I am directing the chief minister to take immediate action and report must be submitted by this eve to my office,” said an official statement issued by the prime minister’s office.

The woman was stoned to death by her father and two brothers in an apparent ‘honour killing’ outside the LHC on May 27 after she married a man of her choice.

Farzana Iqbal of Chak 167, Jaranwala, was previously engaged to a cousin but chose to marry Muhammad Iqbal, a resident of Syedawala, a month ago. Her family registered a kidnapping case against Iqbal at Syedawala police station and Farzana arrived at the LHC to record her statement in favour of her husband, officials had said.

Police had said that Farzana was waiting outside the LHC, near a mosque, when members of her family opened fire at her. She had survived the firing and subsequently, nearly a dozen men, including her father, brothers and former fiancée, pelted her with bricks and stones, according to Civil Lines SP Umar Riaz Cheema.

The men continued to stone her until she died on the spot.

Local police had reached the spot soon after Farzana died and registered a case on her husband’s complaint.

Farzana suffered head injuries and was taken to the hospital by passersby, where she was declared dead on arrival.

All attackers except Farzana’s father, Muhammad Azeem, fled from the scene. Azeem confessed to police that he killed his daughter as it was a matter of honour. No further arrestshave been made by the Mozang police yet.

According to rights group Aurat Foundation, honour killings claim an estimated 1,000 lives of women every year in Pakistan – the figure is compiled from news reports and the Foundation states that actual statistics may be greater.

And in a neighbouring country.. WTF!
unlike in denialistan, in its neighbouring country arrest has already been made ! And that incident happened in a village not in a city that too in court premises. Denialistan sucks in women rights !

This stupid blood money laws need to be amended..Now the murderers are probably gonna go scotfree because mother of the victim is likely to forgive her husband and son!!Remember the case where a prominent saudi cleric killed his 5 year old daughter by smashing her skull in floor-he was let go because his wife, the mother of the victim forgave him.

Punishment for rape is mininum 7 years and upto life sentence. And it does not require the victim to produce 4 eye witness. Any way all that is off topic, and I wholeheartedly welcome any law that imparts speedy and severe punishments to rape and murder.I hope the same for pakistanis. This blood money law which imparts full immunity (not just reduction in punishment) to the criminal is utterly unjust and also motivates these type of honor/in familly killings provided the family members can acquit the murderer, who would also be in family. This stupid law empowered this husband to strangle his first wife because he was sure he could make his little son forgive him!!! If you guys are defending this law because of religion then please also go shariah way and make the value of a women's testimony half as that of a man.

Farzana Iqbal killing: Main accused sent on seven-day physical remand

LAHORE:
An anti-terrorism court on Saturday sent the main accused in the alleged honour killing of a 25-year-old woman on a seven-day physical remand, Express Newsreported.

The main accused in the case is the victim Farzana Iqbal’s father.

Farzana Iqbal, was allegedly stoned to death by her father and two brothers in an apparent ‘honour killing’ outside the LHC on May 27 after she married a man of her choice. She was present at the LHC to record a statement in favour of her husband, accused of kidnapping her and forcing her into marriage.

Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani on May 30 had taken suo motu notice of the alleged honour killing and had sought a report into the matter from the Punjab police chief within 48 hours. The top judge had also requested that the killers be brought to justice and any police officers present at the scene of the crime be punished for aiding and abetting the crime through their inaction.

Four men, including Farzana’s uncle Muhammad Atta, cousins Jehangir Ahmad and Muhamad Azeem, and a driver, Muhammad Nasir, were arrested on May 30, a senior police officer had said. The new arrests brought the number held over the killing to five, after Farzana’s father was detained at the crime scene.

Cases have been registered against these suspects under Sections 302, 148, 149 of the PPC and 7-ATA.

On May 29, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took notice of the murder and directed the Punjab chief minister to submit an immediate report into the incident. The chief minister had ordered the Punjab police inspector to register a case under anti-terrorism laws.

Hours after PM Nawaz had ordered immediate action, Punjab police scotched reports that law enforcers were present at the scene of the crime.

An initial investigation report filed to Shahbaz had stated that the scene of the crime was not in front of the court but “several hundred feet away from the LHC doors” where “there is no police deployment”.
