RAWALPINDI: Army Chief General Raheel Sharif said Pakistan will do all efforts to protect the integrity and sovereignty of Afghanistan but expects the same level of commitment from the neighbouring country.

Gen Raheel said this during his visit to meet troops deployed at forward bases in North and South Waziristan Agency on Eidul Fitr, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday.

He offered Eid prayers along with other senior military brass in Shawal area and interacted with troops, read a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations.

The army chief commended the morale and spirit of troops “fighting on the front line to protect their motherland”, it read.

“As consolidation goes on and operational dividends optimised for Pak-Afghan border region, Pakistan will not allow anyone to use its soil against Afghanistan,” he said and further directed all military commanders, intelligence and law enforcement agencies to take concrete measures against violators.

“Peace and stability along Pak-Afghan border remains our priority, towards which we will commit all our efforts,” Gen Raheel maintained.

He said border management and dignified repatriation of Afghan refugees are important enablers for lasting peace.

“Our efforts for peace in Afghanistan have been acknowledged. While we are committed to facilitate the reconciliation process with sincerity, commitment and resolve, we expect that Afghanistan’s territory will not be used against Pakistan.”

Later, during his trip to Datta Khel, Gen Raheel was briefed by the Corps Commander and the Formation Commander about the ongoing sanitisation and stabilisation operation as part of Zarb-i-Azb and post-operation security environment, ISPR stated.

“Our nation and the valiant army have paid a huge price for eliminating terrorist and restoring peace in the country. We will not let these sacrifices go waste,” the army chief asserted.

Gen Raheel maintained that military operations against terrorists of all hue and colour will continue.

The army chief said "with Fata cleared and terrorists being chased across the country, we are determined not to allow them to return and reverse our gains".

Earlier on arrival on the front lines, the army chief was received by Lt Gen Hidayat Ur Rehman, Corps Commander Peshawar.

@pakistani342 : Seems like a pivot from the GHQ? i.e. first its acknowledging that its soil is being used against Afghanistan and 2nd its start to take actions against them?

From whom?

Here is my take and this is significant announcement from GHQ.

- GHQ acknowledges that elements in Pakistan destabilizes Afghanistan.

- GHQ promises to take actions against them.

All of this in light of the recent Obama announcement of change in troop withdrawal and commitment to long term AF security, which probably has changed GHQ's calculus vis-a-vis AF security.

General sb please do not expect anything from Afghanistan. You will surely be disappointed as they never think in favor of Pakistan, right from the birth of our country.

oh please they are up the @ss of pakistan's enemies ! why are we so retarded you really expect protection from a snake ? lets just get the f uck away from afghanistan as much a we can already let NATO and the afghan army deal with their protection that's what they're there for. It's not our responsibility and we have more than enough of our own problems-Pakistan should protect itself.

we always knew it was a protection racket. Pay up or else.

A 'protection racket' which offers protection in return for protection?

If asking another country to fulfil it's obligations as a neughbouring country is enough to be branded a 'protection racket' then God-knows-what India becomes. Remember that old babu Rajnath Singh threatening actual open conflict with Pakistan after a bunch of Indian occupiers were pumped with lead in Kashmir?

Point 1 and 2 were always said officially. Only, The critics including you of GHQ did not believe before...But I am happy that you are changing to believe. Though I do not think anything changed or will or has!

Point 3- Pakistan knew from the start that America is here to stay...In fact in a ministry of defence related job written test, people were asked to write an essay about the true reason behind America's invasion of Afghanistan while hinting towards their real mission involving Pakistan....
GHQ do not form or change policies viewing an invader's decision but to what it needs to continue its strategic objectives..
.And it has certainly not changed anything when he gave the statement.

However, If you believe what you stated, then it is good for the GHQ and everyone here...

But unfortunately that is what it means. Protection racket, like a mafiosi deal, is like when Pakistan says 'do this and that or else I will not let these thousand trucks that bring you supplies cross the border' to a landlocked Afghanistan. Very unfriendly.

Kabul regime has a decision to make, their own interests OR India's

Indian interests? When Afghans ask Pakistan to stop supporting Afghan Talis, stop housing their leadership, stop giving them passports, stop housing them in Pindi, Islamabad or Karachi, are those Indian interests?

Wake up!

No in short, stop being indias terrorist pawns and start looking after your own interests.
