Pakistan was offered $10 billion financial aid from Saudi Arabia - Tehran Times

What can Pakistan do against a well armed country attacking Saudi Arabia ? Could the Pakistani army have stopped Saddam's forces in 1990 ?

Pakistan has no business in Iraq-Iran, but Pakistan has business with KSA in KSA only or at least that is the promise given by Pakistan army and Pakistani government on public. Iran is not that lucky, and yet, UAE cannot stop whining.

. . . . .
Check with your army first. $10bn buys a lot of goodies!

You haven't figured it out yet ! It was so obvious to Pakistanis. It was Pakistan Army that first said NO and then the other politicians also followed suit.

.
Moreover, Pakistan, which was initially offered to receive a $10 billion financial aid from Saudi Arabia, revised its decision after a trip by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Islamabad.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who holds amicable ties with Saudi Arabia, also threw the ball into the court of the parliament. The parliament then drafted a bill, forbidding Islamabad to send troops to Saudi Arabia to help it crack down on the Yemeni people.

Diplomatically thus, the Saudi regime faced a heavy defeat, which was the fruit of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s dynamic and successful policy.

I don't know what these guys were smoking when they wrote this article. The Pakistani Parliament is where the PM goes, has gone historically for everything, including to get a vote of confidence against IK's sit ins and all. So the Parliament / Democracy rules. End of the story.

Smart decision by Pakistan. When you have a future worth hundreds of billions, right inside your own country, why risk your soldiers? Pakistan is a nuke power and I am glad it acted responsibly and made the entire world realize there is more to Pakistan than just $$$$. This decline of support with a reason (as KSA's territory isn't getting impacted), shows mature, sophisticated and responsible reaction by Pakistan towards global events. This decision also helped Pakistan's world standing as this created a bigger power image, albeit a growing country. Good work by the parliament of Pakistan!!

Yes but the 'no' initially was because the initial offer was a low-ball one.

For $10bn I'm sure your troops are probably already on their way.

It was a NO for several reasons. Pakistan army will not take part in sectarian war. Pakistan defense agreement only obliges Pakistan to defend Saudi Arabia from invasion but taking part in civil war in Yemen is not part of scope of that agreement. Saudis also bribed Saddam to attack Iran and it ended badly for both Iraq and Iran. Pakistan have close relations with Iran and we are not going to damage them by sending Pakistan Army to Yemen. $10 or $20 billion is not worth getting trapped in Yemen.

Dude, as we speak your team is in SA (presumably negotiating). Why such authority?

I think it's more likely than not that you will join, worth it or not.

May be few thousand solders and advisors which will stay inside Saudi Arabia and will not take part in any military action in Yemen. Saudi Arabia bought $70 billion worth of modern arms they are capable of fighting rebels in Yemen.

.
i guess 10 billion as first payment:):):)what is 10b these days? Araps offers 45 billion to stop iran-iraq war in 1980s or 70s if idont remember wrong..

.
I also hope we can cut a good deal with Iran over the gas. We need that desperatly. All in all this is showing Pakistan in good stead.

Pakistan and Turkey should stay out of civil wars in Arab states, Saudi have caused lots death and destruction by supporting Sunni radicals in Syria and Iraq. While Iran supports the Shia radicals and Houthis in Yemen. Its not worth even $45 billion to trap our forces in Yemen.

Got to love your way of thinking !!

You want to take money from both sides?

If you can pull it off, great.
