ISLAMABAD: While supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, Pakistan has urged the world community to help stop the ongoing wanton Israeli aggression on innocent Palestinians.

These views were expressed by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani while talking to the visiting Iranian Minister for Petroleum and special envoy to the Iranian President Gholamhossein Nowzari, who separately called on them here on Saturday.

Prime Minister Gilani said Pakistan strongly condemns Israeli aggression against Palestinians in Gaza and is deeply concerned at the continuity of unbridled atrocities of Israel despite international calls for restraint.

He called on the world to give up its double standards by ignoring Israeli state atrocities and act resolutely to stop its aggression against innocent Palestinians in Gaza.

Gilani said Pakistan has always stood by their Palestinian brothers and hence is desirous of complete unity among their ranks. Pakistan has consistently and unequivocally offered unreserved support to the Palestinian cause and supports the establishment of an independent state of Palestine with Al-Quds Sharif as its capital.

The prime minister hoped that the meeting of the Executive Committee of OIC in Jeddah would come up with a constructive and consensus decision in this regard in line with the sentiments all over the Muslim world.

About the Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations, the prime minister lauded the Iranian president’s role in defusing tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of Mumbai blasts and expressed his satisfaction that the two brotherly countries had made progress on the prospects of signing agreements on the gas pipeline and the supply of electricity from Iran to Pakistan. He said Iran should extend the deferred payment of oil facility to Pakistan for one year rather than for 90 days period.

He also hoped that Iran would set up power plants in Pakistan to help overcome the present severe electricity shortage in the country.

The Iranian minister for petroleum stated that Pakistan was a very important Islamic country and hence should assume a leading role in the OIC for the resolution of present Gaza crisis.

He said Iran was mustering support of the Muslim world in this regard and needed Pakistan’s assistance for taking a united stance of the Muslim Ummah on the Palestine issue.

Underscoring the critical situation in Gaza, the Iranian minister stated that the role of Muslim countries at this juncture would be recorded in the history. They should, therefore, forget their petty differences to counter the Israeli aggression.

The Iranian minister termed Pakistan his second home and stated that he considered Pakistan’s difficulties as Iran’s difficulties and Pakistan’s progress as Iran’s progress.

He agreed with the prime minister that there was an urgent need for finalisation of gas pipeline project between the two countries.

He promised to convey Pakistan’s request for extension in the period of deferred payment of oil facility to the Iranian government.

He also agreed with the prime minister that bilateral trade between the two countries needed to be enhanced and called for both sides to take concerted efforts to achieve that goal.

APP adds: President Asif Ali Zardari said the attacks in Gaza were in violation of the UN Charter and urged the international community to play its role in bringing an end to violence against the Palestinians. Gholamhossein Nozari delivered a letter from the President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on this occasion.

We need the Muslim Ummah to be united..no more shia/sunni, arab, persian, turkish, pakistani, bangladeshi...we all are Muslims, if we are united then no one can touch us.

Pakistan urges???Does urging works??

Still better than what other Muslim countries are doing, besides Pakistan cant act alone against Israel, we have too many things going on in our soil already, but if other Islamic countries join Pakistan in acting against Israel... then we may stop this genocide against the Palestenian people.
